What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I want to make the game as fun as it can be, and I believe working directly with community feedback is the best way to make that happen. Early Access provides the opportunity to grow and involve the community as the game develops, allowing me to prioritize what people are enjoying most and fix things they aren't.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Currently the plan is approximately 12 months from Early Access to Release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to feature a complete gameplay loop around each pillar of the game (Create, Explore, Trade, Battle). I plan to enter Early Access with the basics of each pillar and then refine them throughout Early Access with regular content and feature updates.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Right now the game is in a Creative-mode singleplayer state with free form building mechanics and a procedural asteroid field. You can start experimenting with the building and movement mechanics, as well as designing space ships, space stations, and asteroid bases.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to gradually raise the price as new content and features are shipped.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I have relied heavily on community involvement in previous projects and feel it is invaluable to have that active feedback loop. I intend to use the game's Discord server as the primary way to involve the community, and there is also a feedback form built into the game. Players are encouraged to suggest features or changes, and report any issues found. I want to engage directly with players over chat, posts, and polls.”

About This Game

Wayward Beyond is a space sandbox RPG with procedurally-generated elements. You will be immersed into a retro-future themed galaxy during its frontier era far beyond the reach of our Milky Way!

Chart Your Stars

In Wayward Beyond, the choice is yours - how you want to play, who you want to be, and where you want to go. There is no wrong way to play as you pick which pillars of the game to engage with.

Create

Express your creativity and shape the environment. You can build space ships and stations, craft powerful items and customize gear, engineer interconnected ship systems, architect automated manufacturing plants, and delve into TTRPG-style character builds.

Explore

Find a galaxy of procedurally-generated events and elements packed with environmental storytelling, providing variety, emergent gameplay, and replayability. You will find asteroids, derelict stations, crashed ships, alien stars, and more.

Trade

Buying, selling, or bartering you can make your own way. Localized economies with supply and demand allow you to invest, transport, and trade whether you are after financial success or supplementing progression.

Battle

Engage your enemies in gravity and zero-g environments whether by foot, jetpack, or ship. Using your own hard earned, created, discovered, or stolen armaments you can find yourself in melee, small arms, or ship-vs-ship combat - or the sorry victim of an alien chasing you through a derelict station.
