What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Terminal War is built by a small indie studio with a singular vision: deliver the tactical, high-stakes multiplayer experience that this genre has been missing. Early Access lets us put the core gameplay, the gunfights, the executions, every round, directly in players' hands while we continue to refine and expand it.
We believe the players who've been waiting for a game like this deserve a seat at the table during development, not just at launch. Early Access gives us the runway to build Terminal War the right way: driven by real feedback from a dedicated community, not rushed to meet an arbitrary deadline.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Terminal War is expected to be in Early Access for approximately 12 to 18 months. That said, we're a small studio and we'd rather take the time to get it right than rush to a finish line. The timeline will ultimately be shaped by community feedback, the scope of content we deliver, and the standard of quality we hold ourselves to.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand Terminal War significantly beyond what's available at Early Access launch. This includes a wider content selection, more weapon categories, deeper customization options, improved animations, additional maps, and more game modes. Our goal is to build Terminal War into a complete, polished multiplayer experience while staying true to the core gameplay that makes it unique. Development priorities will be shaped by community feedback as we go.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At Early Access launch, Terminal War will feature the core 4v4 multiplayer experience including gunplay, melee combat, executions, and the foundational gameplay loop that defines the game. Players can expect a selection of maps, weapons, and customization options on day one. The game is playable and competitive out of the gate, but will continue to grow and improve throughout Early Access based on player feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to offer Terminal War at a lower price during Early Access to reward the players who support us early. The price will likely increase as we add more content and move toward the full release. Early supporters get in at the best price and help shape the game from the ground up.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community involvement is central to how we plan to develop Terminal War. Players will have a direct voice in shaping the game, from voting on upcoming maps, game modes, and weapon models to providing feedback that will help us rebalance and refine the experience. Our goal is to stay in tune with our promised core vision while building alongside the community that believes in it.”

About This Game

Terminal War is a team-based third-person shooter set in post-war America, combining classic multiplayer action with grounded gunplay, scarce resources, and brutal melee combat.

The year is 1999, seven years after World War III, and America stands locked in a nuclear standoff with itself. Three factions fight for control of what remains: the FMF, the LSUC, and the Banshee Militia. The fate of the wider world remains a mystery, though there is little reason for hope.

Teams will fight through abandoned suburbs, overgrown facilities, and forgotten towns.
Scavenge as you fight. Ammunition and supplies are out there but your opponents are looking for them too.

  • Weapons are scaled back and ammo is scarce.

  • Melee is slow, heavy, and final.

  • Build your loadout carefully and tailor it to your playstyle.

  • Customize your characters across three factions.

  • Adapt to rain, snow, fog, and harsh sunlight as weather conditions shift from one match to the next.

The Factions

FMF - Federal & Military Forces

The FMF took the East while the states were still digging out of the rubble. They withheld federal resources until weakened state governments had no choice but to submit. Month by month, governors fell in line. The FMF called it the Federal Consolidation, or "FEDCON". Some governors caved willingly, others were being branded traitors or taken hostage. They fight in uniform and answer to a strict chain of command. They claim the nuclear silos are still operational. Seven years on, they put down uprisings every week, but some people think the whole thing is a paper tiger. Raven Rock remains their main headquarters.

LSUC - Local & State Union for Civility

The LSUC is made up of the free states still holding the American West. Its ranks include civil servants, veterans, and soldiers who defected from the FMF. They have no real command structure and no unified front. Some states use what little they have left to defend their own borders, leaving the others to fend for themselves. The LSUC also claims to control the nuclear silos, but neither side has proven it. Their headquarters is tucked away in Salt Lake City, where their president prepares to reinforce the Line.

Banshee Militia
Hidden cells with no territory, no uniform, and no colors. The Banshees move in civilian clothes, unsuspected. They fight with stealth and ambush because they cannot win any other way. They want the country reset from zero, and that starts with taking both other factions apart from the inside. They aim to disable the nuclear silos, seize critical supply lines, and ambush enemy forces on the move. They are rumored to have established bases in Montana and the Adirondacks.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

This game contains depictions of realistic violence, including the use of firearms, explosions, and close-quarters combat. Players may encounter scenes involving injured or deceased characters in a war-torn environment.

The game’s narrative themes include armed conflict, civil unrest, and survival in a collapsed society. There is no explicit sexual content.

The game is intended for mature audiences due to its violent themes and realistic combat.
