What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We believe that developing the game with the support and feedback of a passionate community will help us shape a better, more engaging experience. Early Access allows us to fine-tune core mechanics, test content in real-world conditions, and prioritize features that matter most to our players.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our current plan is to stay in Early Access for about 12 months. However, this timeline may shift depending on community feedback and the development process.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to include additional content such as:
  • Co-op support for up to 4 players
  • Full gamepad support
  • A customizable hub where players can gather and interact
  • Fully procedurally generated levels with a wide variety of templates
  • New spells and characters
  • Dynamic enemy mutations
  • Improved storytelling
  • New objective types
  • Overall performance improvements, gameplay balancing, and full localization support
  • And much more — including features and improvements based on community feedback
We’ll try our best to maintain a public roadmap on our Discord server, where players can track current development plans, upcoming features, and recent updates.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

  • Monsters & Mutations: 10 base monsters + 100 possible mutations.
  • Characters & NPCs: 4 playable heroes, 4 interactive NPCs.
  • Maps & Dungeons: 3 map templates; main progression path with 5+ dungeon variations; fully procedural dungeons with customizable room/dungeon parameters.
  • Spells: ~20 abilities, combinable into unique spell loadouts.
  • Emotion Trees: Four distinct trees (Wrath, Sorrow, Guilt, Pain), each with 40 upgrade nodes.
  • Multiplayer: Co-op support for up to four players.
  • Boss Encounters: Two lore-driven, emotion-influenced bosses.
  • Artefacts: Ten special artefacts that significantly modify gameplay.
  • Hub Village: Expandable village hub where you unlock new services, upgrades, and lore entries down the line.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, we plan to increase the price once the game leaves Early Access to reflect the added content and improvements. Players who join us early will get the game at a lower price and help shape its future.
We also plan to host community events, giveaways, and contests — including opportunities to win free game keys.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want to build Whisperborn with the community. We'll be listening closely to player feedback through forums, Discord, and Steam discussions. We'll also run regular surveys and share development updates, changelogs, and roadmaps to keep players involved in key decisions.”

About This Game

Whipserborn is a dark, 2D roguelike set in a sentient forest shaped by sorrow, memory, and something older than death. You awaken as one of many lost souls—trapped in a realm between dream, death, and forgotten truth—searching for who you were, and why you're still here.

Whipserborn doesn’t tell its story directly. Everything you see—the shapes of trees, the enemies you fight, the sounds, the symbols—are fragments of a shattered self. Each run is a new interpretation of a forgotten past, a path through a labyrinth of emotions, echoes, and fading dreams.

Every run offers a unique, map filled with unexpected events, hidden paths, and secrets that shift and change with each attempt.

Your characters are not heroes—they're fragments of souls that once were, or could have been. Their abilities, traits, and fates are part of a larger mystery that unfolds through exploration, combat, and vision-like encounters.

Build and combine powerful magic by fusing elemental forces, shapes, and behaviors. Inspired by systems like Magicraft, the spell system allows near-limitless creativity and strategic play.

Your greatest enemies are not monsters—they are the emotional manifestations of those who broke under the weight of their own pain: grief, guilt, envy, emptiness. Each boss tells a story—if you're willing to understand it.

Between runs, return to a strange and shifting hub that reflects your progress. Unlock new features, meet unusual entities, and uncover deeper layers of the forest’s truth.

Face the forest alone or with another soul. WhipserBorn supports seamless co-op—another player can join you at any moment, sharing the weight of this haunting journey.

The forest speaks not through exposition, but through echo, music, and symbol. A haunting soundscape and minimalist, impactful lines guide you through a story of loss, memory, and choice.

Creatures in the forest can fuse and mutate, forming elite variants with a chaotic blend of behaviors and traits. These enemies are unique to each run—unreadable, unstable, and never the same twice.

Whipserborn doesn’t offer clear answers. Every player will interpret this journey differently. It’s a game about loss—but also about the choice.
