[ About This Game ]

RouteWhom is a first-person liminal space psychological horror walking simulator, depicted through the unique visual lens of early 2000s (Y2K) digital cameras. Set in deserted, modern Japanese-style environments that evoke a nostalgic yet deeply unsettling atmosphere, players must navigate and escape this bizarre world alongside a mysterious girl dressed in a maid-style Santa cosplay.

[ Story and Objective ]

You awaken in an unfamiliar, completely empty space. It feels like an extension of everyday life, yet a palpable sense of wrongness permeates the unpopulated void. As you explore this unsettling environment, a mysterious girl in a maid-style Santa outfit unexpectedly appears before you. Guided by her, and at times spending moments together that almost feel like a bizarre "date," your objective is to navigate your way through this strange, unpopulated place.

[ Gameplay ]

The core mechanic of this title is a 3D walking simulator heavily focused on environmental exploration.

  • Exploration & Escape: Navigate through photorealistic, authentic modern Japanese buildings to uncover the path forward.

  • Companionship: This is not a journey of sheer isolation; walking alongside the girl is the heart of the experience. She acts as your sole guide in this sterile environment. However, the deep unnaturalness of her being the only other presence in an empty void creates an eerie dissonance, suggesting she may not be an entirely trustworthy companion.

  • The "Challenge": There are no flashy action sequences. To progress, players must endure the psychological dread and anxiety born from the eerie emptiness. As you listen to the girl's words and face whatever truths may gradually unfold, you must rely on your own observation to simply keep moving forward.

[ Key Features ]

  • Y2K Digital Camera Aesthetics: While sharing the nostalgic appeal of popular 80s and 90s VHS horror, this game specifically utilizes visual effects that replicate the unique resolution, color grading, and slightly overexposed, blurry look of digital cameras from around the year 2000. Paired with realistic level design, it creates a unique blend of nostalgia and dread.

  • Lifelike Motion Capture Animations: To seamlessly blend the character into the photorealistic world, all of the girl’s facial expressions and bodily movements are based on motion-capture recordings, which are then carefully hand-adjusted. The stark contrast between the highly realistic environments and her smooth, lifelike presence significantly deepens the immersion.

  • "Horror" Meets "Date": A highly unusual narrative experience that blends the deeply isolating tropes of horror games with the conflicting, intimate element of spending time with a mysterious girl.
