About This Game

(Game development in progress, screenshots will be updated when finalized.)

This game is a dark, corrupted, and twisted otome visual novel full of bad, brutal, and merciless ends. Can you finally find a happy ending? Pfft... good luck.

Remembrance is the standalone-sequel to Particles of Reality: Obsession. A summary of significant relevant events is included in this game, so if Obsession was too dark & depressing for you, no worries!

But be warned, it's still a dark, rough ride, although (for plot purposes!!!) it's not as bad as its predecessor.

Series Information

You are the main character of multiple versions (aka Routes) of multiple clusters of reality (aka Worlds). The characters around you will always be the same people, but the worlds will vary wildly.

But... what does any of this have to do with you destroying reality?!

This game is the second World called "Remembrance". The first was "Obsession." Each world is its own universe and unique story. Obsession & Remembrance plot lines are not related in any way. Only the Particles mystery & Ethereal beings connect them.

Game Features:

  • Choose-your-own-adventure style dark, dramatic, violent otome visual novel.

  • MC customizable full name (self-insertion is not recommended)

  • The MC is now a mostly confident and intelligent woman. No more cowering, phobias, and (usually?) painful naivety.

  • Light / Partial / Limited voiced dialog for all love interests (in Obsession - Abridged too!)

  • Minimum of 7 CGs per love interest character (plus others!)

  • 6 love interests (breakdown at the end)

  • 8 wildly different endings per character

  • Bonus Content: Side, mini, and what if stories for each love interest!

  • Achievements and in-game Achievement screen

  • [TBD] wordcount. [TBD] hours of content (at 200wpm average reading speed) [Anticipated to be similar to Obsession in length, so 50+ hours. Exact count to come.]

  • Trigger warnings are listed per route. Review them for your own good!

  • Walkthroughs available in game.

  • 95% of choices change the ending. Those that do not are clearly labelled (unless indicators are disabled in settings).

  • A healthy relationship with your mom & sister! (In this series? WTF?)

  • Maybe a happy ending somewhere? No promises.

What are the triggering themes?

THE MAIN CHARACTER WILL DIE.   A LOT.    In upsetting ways.

100% chance ALL mortal characters will die at some point. We gotta be fair, right?

Bad & vulgar language, adult themes, gore, extreme violence, murder, suicide, stalking, abuse, references to sex & alcohol & drugs, unhealthy romanticized behaviors, brutal deaths, blood, manipulation, gaslighting, a variety of (poorly and inaccurately represented) mental illnesses, sexual harassment, dubious consent, unwanted groping, and more should all be expected.

This game is NOT an accurate representation of anything!

Ooookay... what am I safe from?

  • No child abuse. All characters are 20+ (except the cat I guess... probably?).

  • No incest.

  • No animal abuse.

You are a paranormal scientist who landed a dream job at a secret government research facility! The pay and benefits are too good to refuse. The downside? You are moving to this remote facility, where your research and contact with the outside world is restricted. You soon learn it is 'who' (not 'what') you are researching, and these supernatural beings claim they know you??? It makes no sense. You're a normal girl... mostly. You don't remember this other life! Why won't they tell you anything?!

Test Subject #1: He/Him

Sebastian's identical twin brother. He lives a hedonistic, polyamorous lifestyle. You are the love of his brother's life, but it's okay. He's willing to share. Alexander's powers center around the mind.

Don't mind the hair color. It varies...

Note: Alexander is now polyamorous. (He was mostly polygamous in Obsession, with an exception for Sebastian.) In polygamy, one person has multiple partners, whereas, in polyamory, both the partners are allowed to take multiple lovers or one lover.

Test Subject #2: He/Him

The 'King of Monsters', potentially the most powerful demon in the universe. Sebastian, Alexander, and Julian all dislike and fear him. Brandon is possessive, secretive, and oddly fixated on you. Brandon's powers seem unlimited. He's the king for a reason.

Test Subject #3: He/Him

Your eternal soulmate... whether you like it or not. Sebastian will do anything for you... anything at all as long as you two can be together. He loves you more than life itself. You will be very happy together... he promises. Sebastian's powers center around shadows & night.

Coworker: They/Them

You met briefly in college before they suddenly vanished. How strange you ended up working at the same secret government facility together... and they are your coworker. Small world, huh?

Quinn seems... sad, nervous, and depressed. (The Ethereals find this strange given their previous outgoing, party animal personality. Usually personalities don't vary so much... what could explain such a significant change?)

Quinn admires and respects you, but there's a lot of suspicious stuff happening around them and they are oddly protective of you. Is it safe to trust them?

Note: Quinn's pronouns have changed in this reality due to their healthier, more secure upbringing.

Test Subject #4: He/Him

The words 'Vampire' and 'Incubus' are inadequate terms for Julian. The fangs are just another tool in the toolbox. Julian is extremely avoidant of you... It almost seems like he's afraid of something and knows a lot more than he will say, but he won't tell you. ... Or can't? Julian has a variety of powers... especially when it comes to seduction.

Also... why is he always arguing with himself?

CEO: He/Him

Your boss. Victor runs this secret facility and he hired you for a very specific job. You have a lot of morally questionable freedom to accomplish his goals. But how did Victor obtain these prisoners, what is his relationship to them, and why is he so secretive with information? What exactly are Victor's end goals...?

The characters from Obsession are the same... but also different.

If you played "Obsession", you have certain expectations of the characters you already know. But these men have changed...

Nature vs. Nurture? What makes us who we are today? In Particles of Reality, the answer is both.

There are core factors about our personality that are constant throughout realities. "I was born this way." So for example, Alexander will always be a pervert, Quinn will always be gender-fluid.

A curious question to consider: What traits make up the core personality and what is flexible? It may not always be what you expect.

However, our upbringing also changes us. In Obsession, Monika had an abusive & neglectful family, which made her timid and afraid. In Remembrance, Monika had a healthy, loving family.  She is now a strong and confident woman, but it also means she may be stubborn... and she'll do anything to protect her loved ones.

All the love interests have their own new goals, values, morals, agendas, and motivations. These may have changed since Obsession. Not all may be in your best interests.

The characters you know are still here, but... a lot has changed. You may not know them as well as you think.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

All CGs, sprites, music, voice acting, and writing is human-generated by the artists listed on the credits screen in game.

AI-generated assets were used exclusively for backgrounds as a cost-saving measure due to being a solo indie developer on a limited budget.

By using generated backgrounds, the available funds were better spent on having more important human-generated assets, like MANY more CGs, voice acting, and new outfits for the characters.

An in-depth post regarding this decision was made prior to development on Patreon and Discord. All members were informed about its use and the tradeoffs being considered. Members and supporters agreed they'd prefer to have more CGs and voiced lines instead of custom backgrounds.

No patreon funds or profits from the earlier game were pocketed. This was purely a resource allocation decision. If the funds were available to do all custom backgrounds, that would have been done.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Bad & vulgar language, adult themes, gore, extreme violence, murder, stalking, abuse, references to sex & alcohol & drugs, unhealthy romanticized behaviors, brutal deaths, blood, manipulation, gaslighting, a variety of (poorly and inaccurately represented) mental illnesses, sexual harassment, dubious consent, unwanted groping, and more should all be expected.
