What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“While we are very satisfied with the current state of the game, we still have bigger dreams for it. Early Access provides the additional time and resources required for the game to realize its full potential. And we cannot do it alone. Opening up Down with the Ship to more players allows development to be guided more effectively by the interests of the player base.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Down with the Ship to remain in Early Access for around one year. That said, the exact duration will depend on development progress, player feedback, and the overall scope of the game as it evolves.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand the game’s overall scope with new features, additional variety, and more ways to play. Current areas of focus include:

- Additional factions: Possibly including robots, pirates and aliens.
- The Starmap: A planned interactive map for navigating the Cauldron, with unique destinations and special encounters.
- Seasonal content: Potential rewards and added variety to help keep the experience fresh.
- Quality-of-life improvements: Continued additions and refinements to improve the overall experience.
- Expanded cosmetic offerings: More customization options over time.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version is rich in content and offers deep replayability. The twelve captains and four factions already make for a full experience on their own. While some bugs can be expected, the game is generally polished and already feels cohesive and complete.

It already plays like a full game. Early Access is intended to expand on that foundation and add new ways to play.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We are considering a higher price after Early Access to better reflect the expanded content and scope of the game. Any future pricing decisions will depend on how development progresses over time.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community input plays a major role in shaping Down with the Ship. Players can reach us through the Steam forums and our Discord. Feature requests are taken seriously, and there is a tight loop for smaller suggestions. Beyond bug fixes, players can have a quick and meaningful impact on the game’s direction in several areas:

- Item suggestions: Some community suggestions have already made it into the game.
- Balance: When improving balance is more complicated than simply adjusting numbers, player insights help improve fairness across both regular play and Endless mode.
- Features and quality-of-life improvements: Community input helps guide new features, usability improvements, and overall refinements.”

“Who among us doesn't enjoy cobbling together a ridiculous spaceship from spare parts and throwing it against a gauntlet of other spaceships to see which ship is the best?”

About This Game

Build It, Arm It, Dare Anyone to Stop It

Down with the Ship is a strategic auto‑battler about assembling your own hull, stuffing it with powerful hardware, and sending it to war against other players’ fabrications—while you watch the chaos unfold.

Choose a Captain, Break the Rules

Each captain is a different doctrine: oddball passives, warped hull layouts, dirty tricks. They bias the shop toward certain themes, but you can also tap into other factions’ toolboxes. Mix pirate plunder with alien bio‑tech or imperial armor if it gets the job done.

Roll, Evaluate, Exploit

The shop spits out a handful of parts each round—guns, reactors, parasites, shields, cursed junk. Rarity lies. Commons can be cornerstones; exotics can be bait. Draft what synergizes, lock what you need later, re‑roll when the plan shifts.

Shape the Hull, Not Just the Loadout

Hull pieces aren’t just armor—they’re puzzle parts. Rotate, snap, and stitch them together to grow weird silhouettes that let you cram in more toys or funnel power where it matters. Space is a resource. So is adjacency.

Plan the Kill Box

Inventory management is the metagame. Shift modules to optimize resources, stack buffs, and chain procs. Go balanced… or gamble everything on a single obscene combo that either deletes fleets or fizzles.

Let The Battle Unfold

Combat resolves automatically, but you choose when to throw down. Your current build fights; it isn’t grinding for you while you shop or sleep. Designs get stored and may be pulled later to face other players, but your run lives and dies on the ship you launch.

Modes

  • Versus Mode: Climb through player-made ships on a limited life pool. Chase a win streak, scrap your way up the leaderboard in ranked, or chill in casual while theory‑crafting the next abomination. Hit the cap? Push on in endless just to see how absurd things can get.
