What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“UNKNOWN FACES is already a fully playable and engaging experience, but we see Early Access as an opportunity to take it even further. The game’s social deduction and strategy elements thrive on real player interaction, and involving the community directly helps us fine-tune balance, pacing, and new ideas.

By launching in Early Access, we can continue improving and expanding on what’s already solid, ensuring every update makes the experience deeper, smoother, and more exciting. It’s about building on a strong foundation together with the players who enjoy it most.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our current plan is to stay in Early Access for about 6–12 months. However, this timeline isn’t fixed—it may be shorter depending on how quickly we’re able to implement improvements and additional features.

The game is already fully playable, and Early Access is mainly about polishing, balancing, and expanding based on community input. If development progresses faster than expected, the full release could arrive sooner.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full release is planned to build on the strong foundation already in place. We expect it to feature additional roles, more customization options, refined balance across different playstyles, and overall quality-of-life improvements.

While Early Access is focused on fine-tuning the experience with community input, the full version will represent a more polished and expanded game, offering greater variety and smoother gameplay. Our goal is to grow UNKNOWN FACES into the most immersive and replayable social deduction experience possible.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“UNKNOWN FACES is already fully playable and delivers the complete core experience of social deduction, hidden roles, and strategic gameplay. Players can join matches, take on different roles, and experience the full cycle of deception, investigation, and survival.

The Early Access version provides everything needed to enjoy the game today. Future updates will focus on balance improvements, bug fixes, new features, additional customization, and refinements shaped by community feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We don’t currently plan to change the price after Early Access. The goal is to make UNKNOWN FACES accessible from the start and continue improving it with community feedback. While it’s possible the price could be adjusted if major new content or features are added, our expectation is that it will remain the same.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community involvement is at the heart of Early Access for UNKNOWN FACES. We plan to gather feedback through Steam discussions, emails from players, and our official Discord server. Players’ thoughts on balance, roles, features, and overall gameplay will directly influence future updates.

We’ll be listening closely to suggestions, addressing bug reports, and keeping players informed about what we’re working on next. Our goal is to create a collaborative development process where the community helps shape the game into its best possible form.”

About This Game

UNKNOWN FACES

In this room, trust is suicide.
Unknown Faces turns every conversation into a mind game, every glance into a clue, and every silence into a threat.

A cinematic social deduction experience built on fear, logic, and betrayal. One mistake can end everything.

The Rules

You sit at a table with masked strangers. Some are Mafia, secretly plotting to kill everyone else. The rest must survive, reason, and vote to expose them before it’s too late.

If you’re the Mafia: deceive, manipulate, and eliminate the others one by one without letting anyone discover who you really are.
If you’re not the Mafia: read the room, speak carefully, and survive the paranoia while uncovering who the Mafia are.

Every word can expose you. Every silence can convict you.

Round Phases

1. Role Voting
This is when the special roles act in secret:

  • Mafia: choose one player to eliminate.

  • Detective: investigate one player to check if they are the Mafia or not.

  • Doctor: protect one player from being killed by the Mafia.

2. Discussion Time
Players talk, accuse, defend, and mislead.

3. Voting Time
All players vote for the player they suspect is the Mafia. The player with the most votes moves to Explain Time, where they get a chance to defend themselves.

4. Explain Time
The accused speaks and tries to convince others of their innocence.
Afterward, another vote decides their fate.

  • If the same player is voted again, they die.

  • If a different player is voted, that player moves to Explain Time next.

  • If no one gets voted out, the round ends and the game continues.

Money & Shop

Earn money each round and spend it on items that can change the outcome such as:

  • Protection from Mafia

  • Protection from votes

  • Info from Detective

  • Mystery Box

Every purchase can save you or put a target on your back.

Roles

  • Mafia: eliminate one player each round.

  • Doctor: Protect one player or yourself from being killed by the Mafia.

  • Detective: Investigate one player each round to find out if they are the Mafia or not.

  • Civilian: no powers, rely on speech and votes.

  • Sheriff: can shoot any player; correct shot kills Mafia, wrong shot kills the Sheriff.

  • Clown: wins if voted out.

  • Thief: If the Doctor or Detective dies, steal their role once and gain their ability.

Features

  • Round-based money and an item shop that influence survival and voting.

  • Game customization: toggle roles, adjust timers, set vote rules, control player limits, and more.

  • Smooth multiplayer flow with quick phase transitions and replay-friendly rounds.
