What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game is currently playable, stable, and enjoyable, but it doesn't yet include all the planned content and mechanics. EA allows me to involve the community, collect valuable feedback, and refine gameplay as new features and content are progressively added. I plan to iteratively develop the game alongside player input, ensuring it evolves into a polished and complete experience that the community will enjoy.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Hopefully before Q4 2026”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan on adding more economy systems, better ui, quality of life features, music, more units, better FX.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The main gameplay features are made. there is enough variety in the gameplay for the game to be enjoyable for a while. you can see what's in the game in the about page.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will be priced based on how much content is currently in the game so it will increase in price as the game update.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“A discord server where people can tell me their thoughts on the game and what should be added/changed”

About This Game

Hexbotica is a turn-based strategy game played on a single hex world made of three layers: subterranean caverns, the surface, and the open sky above. Your robots fight, mine, and build across all three layers at once.

Build the factory. The factory builds the army.

Resources come from gem deposits that eventually run dry. Mined gems are refined and sent through pipe networks of your own design. At the end of the chain, an Assembler forges a Unit Core, a pipe carries it to a six-armed Applicator, and the Applicator installs it in a newly constructed unit.

The terrain is a tool

Raise ridges to break line of sight between units, or flatten ground to clear space for your next factory. Excavate networks of tunnels underground, carve through cave walls, and build walls of your own to create chokepoints.

The planet fights back

Storms telegraph their lightning strikes one turn in advance, giving you a chance to move your units out of the blast. Volcanoes erupt and pour lava into the lowlands, earthquakes split the ground open, and meteor showers leave craters that can be mined for resources. The void spiders that live in the planet deploy guards to protect their nests — crack one open and you can harvest its essence, but beware the seven-tile-wide queen who rules them all.

Scout, or be surprised

Fog of war respects height and layer: hills block line of sight, and the underground hides anything your scanners are not actively watching. Out in the dark are derelicts, crash pods, void vortexes, and geothermal fields — claim the vortexes with collecting rigs and the geothermal fields with drill rigs.

Ways to play

  • Single Play — play against the game's hostile world and see how long your civilization can last. All actions resolve simultaneously, so there is no waiting between turns.

  • Online 1v1 — play against an opponent over Steam or a local network. Both players plan at the same time. Each player has one base on the surface and another below ground — losing either one loses the match.

  • Missions — 24 guided scenarios ranging from beginner lessons to difficult challenges.

Also in the crate

  • A variety of units and structures to build and control: twin-cannon tanks, gunships and bombers, repair drones, shield bots, missile silos with interceptor fire, teleporter pad networks, and an artillery gun with a range of 6 to 25 tiles that cannot defend itself from anything standing right beside it.

  • A tech tree that unlocks new types of units.

  • Procedurally generated worlds ranging from deserts and seas to coral caverns and volcanic ridges.

  • A clean, flat-shaded art style with beveled edges.
