1.4.1 | Startup Crash Fix.

Hey everybody,

There's been many reports of the game crashing on startup after the 1.4 update.

We've tracked down the issue to the launcher that starts up before the game, it has now been removed.

I'd appreciate to hear if this issue has been resolved (for the people who had the game crash)

Other than that, update also has a few minor bug-fixes.

1.4 Update

Hey everyone,

We've been hard at work on Dark Deception the past few days.

This is a pretty big update, full of bug fixes and quality of life changes and features!

The additions:

Tablet Map Zoom
You can now zoom out the map by pressing M to make finding shards or escape points easier.

We have brought back the launcher from Chapter 1, here you can change your keybinds and stuff like resolution as well as which screen you want to run the game on (for you multiple monitor guys).

Ring Altar Overhaul
We have made two big changes to the Ring Altar:

  • Details on every power upgrade are now way clearer and easier to read

  • We added a resume button, you can now get all your skill points back to reallocate them to other powers whenever you want. Play around and find the combination you like the most!

Visual Feedback for Powers
When you use your powers you will now be able to tell how long they will last as well as when you will be able to use them again.

Death Tips
Every level will now include useful death tips to hopefully make you die less!

Bug fixes/adjustments:
  • Due to many complaints about Agatha being too easy, school has now received a big buff, can you still beat it? ;)
  • The Clear Screen in the School now properly recognizes whether you've collected both Special Shards.
  • Your maximum Streak will now be saved when you transition through both zones in the Manor.
  • Time spent in the first Zone of the Manor will carry over to Zone 2, no more easy S rank there now :)
  • Replay Mode will now successfully launch Manor when selected.
  • Teleport collision issues in the Ballroom are now fixed.
  • The cursor in the Ring Altar won't disappear anymore after you pause.

About This Game

Dark Deception is a story driven first-person horror action maze game, created from a collaborative indie effort between DD's original creator and the creator of TJOC: Story Mode.

Dark Deception mixes the fast-paced style of classic arcade games with fun horror game design. Trapped in a dark world full of nightmarish mazes and ridiculous monsters, the only way out is to face the darkness and find a way to survive.

This is the first chapter in the Dark Deception story. Investigate and survive the first maze. Be careful though. You are not alone. There are monsters in there and they are looking for you. You will face your fears. The question is - what are you afraid of?

  • Fast-paced Arcade Horror: No hiding in lockers here. Run for your life and run fast. Enemies can be stunned and avoided, but not killed.
  • Power System: Earn XP and unlock powers as you progress that will allow you to even the odds and survive longer against horrendous creatures.
  • High Quality: AAA-quality graphics and creative designs give players a variety of unique and terrifying worlds and enemies to survive.
  • Hazardous Environments: Enemies are not the only danger. The mazes themselves are full of traps, hazards, and other dangers to watch out for.
  • Unique Enemies: Every nightmare presents a unique creature that has its own distinct AI. Players will have to change up their tactics in order to survive.
  • Dark Humor: While scary, Dark Deception is not a bloody or gory game and features it's own stylized brand of dark humor. Dark Deception was designed to be enjoyed by everyone.
