Why Early Access?

“As a solo developer, I'm excited to launch Effulgence RPG in Early Access to refine the gameplay depth and controls with direct input from the community. The unique ASCII 3D visuals and location structures are fully ready, providing a solid foundation. Early Access allows me to iterate on the party-based combat and crafting systems (breaking down enemies into particles for gear) based on player feedback, ensuring a truly polished experience by full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Approximately 6 months, targeting a full release around June 2026. This timeline allows for monthly content updates (new zones and features) and balance refinements based on community input, with flexibility to extend if needed for optimal quality.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will expand on the current foundation with additional zones, deeper endgame content, expanded party options, and fully polished combat/controls refined through player feedback. Expect significant balance improvements, more crafting variety, and optimization for a complete narrative arc - all while preserving saves from Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Playable and stable with the game's core identity already visible:
★ Unique 3D visuals with lighting/animations.
★ A structured set of locations forming a short but complete gameplay loop.
★ Tactical cartridges and narrative interludes that capture the game's tone.
★ Saves, basic settings, and controller support are in.
What's still work-in-progress: combat depth/variety, advanced controller mapping and expanded content.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The EA price is lower and will increase at 1.0 to reflect the added content and polish. Anyone who buys in Early Access keeps all future updates to 1.0 at no extra cost.”

“I develop solo and actively rely on community input:
★ A pinned "Feedback & Bug Reports" thread on Steam Discussions.
★ Short feedback forms linked in-game for quick reports.
★ Transparent roadmap posts and milestone notes every few weeks.
★ I'll summarize what I heard, what's next and why certain choices were made.”

About This Game

Early Access Note: Effulgence RPG is a sci-fi party RPG in a unique ASCII 3D style, with its visual-driven exploration and location structures fully in place. The core loop (party-based turn-based combat and crafting gear from enemy particles) is playable today. During Early Access, I'll deepen combat mechanics and refine controls and Quality of Life features together with your input. Game features:

★ The only way to gather crafting resources is by defeating creatures and breaking them down into individual particles.

★ Using these particles, you can print weapons, gear, and mechanisms on a special printer.

★ Dozens of locations to explore.

Plot

It's easy to transmit a video signal when you're just the distance of a satellite away. If you go beyond the solar system, it may take hours to send a regular image to Earth.

But when the signal comes from a galaxy a million light-years away, only fragments of symbols make it to us. Sometimes, they can be decoded and assembled into an animation made from text characters.

Inspiration

Characters that can be typed on a keyboard are a powerful means of expression. ASCII art uses characters as strokes, crafted like those of an artist’s pen. Each stroke carries both form and meaning: a letter, a number, a symbol.

The quality of modern printing, monitors, and phone screens is astonishing. Does ASCII art have a place in the era of True Color and ultra-high pixel densities? Absolutely!

Charcoal has been used since cave paintings, yet charcoal drawing remains relevant to this day. Paintings with rich palettes haven’t replaced black-and-white graphics. When an artist picks up a pencil, it becomes a tool for creation. When an ASCII artist pulls a keyboard closer, ASCII art is born.

But what if we add a third dimension to these characters? And do so without breaking the feel of the text mode.

Effulgence RPG is more than just a game - it’s an artistic exploration of light and symbols.
