What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We’re a small team, and we’ve worked on Calyx for some time already. We believe the game already offers an entertaining mix of basebuilding, combat and storyline, but there are still mechanics, systems and features missing to make it fully rounded. By offering Calyx to a larger audience before full release, we can receive essential feedback to help us build out the experience and make the final game the best it can possibly be.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our current estimate is between 6-12 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We want to deliver more unit types, more enemy types and more environmental biomes. We also want to work with the community to assess balancing and to understand which quality of life features to prioritise. We plan to roll all these additional features into the next chapter of Calyx’s campaign.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version has a campaign with a tutorial and 16 maps. It has a Skirmish mode with 7 maps and a Challenges mode with a further 9 maps. We've already implemented a lot of quality of life features, the game is free from serious bugs, and performance is in a good place.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“It's likely the price will rise slightly for full release, when Calyx has more content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We’ve already involved the Community in the development of our demo over the course of 2025. We plan to continue the process of carrying out regular play tests with player surveys. We also have a Discord where we actively have discussions with our players.”

“Calyx Review - It's looking really good. It's a bit like Dune 2 and C&C except you fight plants :)”

About This Game

A combination RTS and base builder with a brand new kind of enemy, the Calyx are a group of powerful plant-aliens that, left unchecked, quickly spread to control swathes of the map.

As the only remaining occupant of an Avaris Corporation deep-space mining vessel, you’ve arrived in orbit around a barren-looking planet. While you’re trying to get over being frozen for more than a century, you’re dropped to the surface as the ship’s AI outlines your Ore mining targets.

Build a power network, set up Harvesters and refine Ore before sending it to orbit for Credits. Build walls and turrets to protect your base. Deploy tanks and artillery to push the Calyx back before it gets too strong.

Balance your base’s energy requirements carefully to avoid vital defences being down on power.

Secure rare deposits to improve your mining and military capacity. Connect to booster buildings for additional power, mining and healing buffs.

Will you establish a strong defence, or attack the Calyx before it spreads too far? Dig in and build a massive force, or adopt a mobile and nimble strategy? There are many ways to defeat the different varieties of Calyx. Start your base wherever you like, experiment and develop your styles of play, and learn to cope with different scenarios.

Protect Data Archives to gain Research Points, and use the tech tree to unlock and upgrade more advanced units and buildings. Unlock the Inferno flamethrower and watch the Calyx burn! Build the Unit Workshop and manufacture the Goliath, a massive, multi turret tank, and boost its speed with hover technology. Unlock Orbital technologies and fire a devastating laser beam from orbit.

Protect and power communication arrays to access the corporation’s deep space network. Scan the Calyx roots to learn more about how these hostile lifeforms function. Discover new and dangerous Calyx variants as you battle to gain control of the planet and try to find a way home!
