About This Game

Thomas Marshall stepped onto the creaking dock, and the island greeted him not with silence, but with a deafening, suffocating hush. The kind that rings in your ears. The kind you’d find in a coffin. It was as if the very land itself was holding its breath, waiting for its new keeper to make his first mistake.

Your duties are simple:

• Wind the clockwork: Crank the heavy, iron gears that groan like old bones, keeping the great lens rotating.

• Polish the optics: Clean the intricate Fresnel lens, its countless prisms designed to bend light—and sometimes, something else.

• Feed the lamp: Keep the wick trimmed and replenish the oil in the insatiable lantern—it drinks fuel greedily, yet its beam grows ever dimmer.

But the island hates simplicity. It breathes. It remembers. And every night, something knocks at the door while you pray the light lasts till dawn.

"They were all here before you." Keepers who vanished without a trace. As if the darkness itself erased them. Will you share their fate—or break the cycle?

Diaries are in the desk drawer. Pages of trembling handwriting that dissolve into frantic, desperate screams scrawled in the margins:

"She comes on the east wind." — October 12.

"The lenses lie! They show what must not be seen!" — penciled on a map's edge.

"Don't let the light die. HE will not forgive." — the last keeper's final entry.

Now their duty is yours. But is their fate yours?

The official report states: "The lighthouse was found in a state of orderly abandonment. There was no one in the tower. Repeated calls were met with silence. The men had vanished without a single trace of evidence behind them as to what had happened." "The lamp was cleaned, refilled, and ready for lighting... In the kitchen, the clock had stopped. The table was laid, but the food was untouched. A chair was drawn up to the table, as if someone was about to sit down to eat."

Thomas has nowhere left to run. The contract is signed. The boat is gone. All that remains is the light—and what stirs behind him when the flame flickers.

Night is the true trial. The dark is not empty. It is alive. Peering through windows. Scratching in the basement. Breathing heavily behind the door, leaving wet footprints on the disused stairs.

Do you hear this? Footsteps. On the spiral staircase... Solid. Measured. A deliberate reminder: "You are not alone."

But the rule never changes: "THE FLAME MUST ENDURE." Even if you must burn your memories to fuel it. Even if one morning, you will not recognize your face in the mirror.

The light is the only truth. But what if even it lies?
FEATURES

• LIGHT vs. THE ABYSS. Your days are a cycle of simple, meditative tasks: gathering supplies, maintaining the clockwork mechanism, polishing the Fresnel lens. By night: a desperate struggle against isolation, encroaching madness, and the oppressive dark. Every extinguished lamp brings the unseen closer.

• DESCENT INTO MADNES: Manage hunger, withstand storms, repair breakdowns, and fight fatigue... all while hearing voices in the fog. Are they hallucinations? Or is something out there thanking you for the light?

• UNSETTLING MYSTERIES: Where did the previous keepers go? Why does the basement reek of salt on windless days? And who or what left those wet footprints leading upstairs?

• SUFFOCATING ATMOSPHERE: The meditative rhythm of your duties is shattered by blood-freezing terror when the light fails.

P.S. Still think this is just a "keeper simulator"? Try surviving a week.

One last tip: Don't look at the water after sunset.

The Lighthouse is a work of fiction, inspired by the most haunting maritime mystery in history: the real-life disappearance of three lighthouse keepers on the Flannan Isles (Eilean Mòr) in December 1900. The documents, quotes, and diary fragments you will find are based on authentic sources. This game is dedicated to the vanished.

Dive into a legend that continues to baffle historians and enthusiasts to this day. The game's foundation is built upon: • Keith McCloskey's book, "The Lighthouse: The Mystery of the Eilean Mor Lighthouse Keepers" • The official reports of the Northern Lighthouse Board and "Report by Superintendent Muirhead of the Investigation into the Disappearance of the Keepers" (1901)

• Contemporary reports in The Scotsman newspaper (December 1900 - January 1901)

We simply asked one question... what if the official report was wrong? What if the truth was far, far more terrifying?
