What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Unknown Operations: The Habitus is primarily a solo-developed project, and Early Access gives me the opportunity to improve and expand the game together with its players.

The Early Access release will include the first four missions of the single-player story campaign, introducing Eduard Pěnkava and the beginning of his journey, while also giving players access to the game's core systems such as firefights, infiltration, sabotage, vehicle combat, and environmental destruction.

Player feedback will help me identify what works well and what needs more attention, especially in areas such as combat balance, enemy behavior, mission design, difficulty, performance, and overall gameplay feel.

The goal is to use Early Access to build a stronger and more polished foundation for the complete single-player experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The current goal is for Unknown Operations: The Habitus to remain in Early Access until approximately the end of 2026.

However, this is an estimate rather than a fixed deadline. As a primarily solo-developed project, the exact timing may change depending on development progress, technical challenges, and player feedback.

I would rather spend additional time improving the game than leave Early Access before the planned story content and core gameplay systems are ready.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version launches with the first four missions of the single-player campaign and the core gameplay systems that will form the foundation of the complete game.

During Early Access, I plan to continue expanding the story with additional missions and further develop the game's weapons, enemies, vehicles, environments, and gameplay systems.

Existing missions will also continue to receive improvements based on player feedback, including changes to combat encounters, enemy behavior, balancing, mission pacing, optimization, and overall presentation.

The full version is planned to offer a more complete single-player campaign, additional gameplay content, improved systems, better optimization, bug fixes, and a higher level of overall polish.

Voice acting and other temporary elements used during development may also be improved or replaced as production continues.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At launch, the Early Access version is planned to include the first four playable missions of the single-player story campaign.

These missions introduce Eduard Pěnkava and the opening part of the story while showcasing the main gameplay elements of Unknown Operations: The Habitus, including infantry combat, infiltration, sabotage, environmental interaction, and vehicle-based gameplay.

The game is fully playable, but it is still an Early Access title and active development will continue after release.

Players may encounter bugs, balance issues, performance problems, unfinished elements, and systems that still require additional refinement.

Enemy AI is also still being developed. Enemies can react to changing combat situations and may sometimes behave in unexpected ways, but the system has its limitations and will continue to be improved throughout Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may increase as the game moves through Early Access and receives additional story content, gameplay features, improvements, and polish.

Any potential price changes will reflect the amount of content and the overall state of the game at that point in development.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will be an important part of development throughout Early Access.

I will be paying close attention to player feedback, reviews, bug reports, and discussions to understand which parts of the game work well and which areas need improvement.

Feedback may influence areas such as enemy behavior, combat balance, difficulty, mission flow, controls, performance, and general gameplay clarity.

As a solo developer, I may not be able to implement every suggestion, but player feedback will help me prioritize the issues and improvements that have the greatest impact on the overall experience.

The goal is to improve Unknown Operations: The Habitus step by step while continuing development of the full single-player campaign.”

About This Game

Unknown Operations: The Habitus

Unknown Operations: The Habitus is a solo-developed tactical first-person shooter set during World War II, combining story-driven missions with sabotage, firefights, vehicle combat and destructible environments.

Take on the role of Eduard Pěnkava, a young soldier whose journey gradually pulls him from the battlefield into the world of espionage and the secret organization known as Habitus.

Inspired by real historical events, the game mixes history with fiction to tell a story of resistance, secret operations, betrayal and survival.

Early Access

The Early Access version includes the first four missions of the single-player story campaign, introducing Eduard Pěnkava and the beginning of his journey.

Alongside the campaign, players can experience operations focused on the game's core gameplay systems, including firefights, infiltration, sabotage and vehicle combat.

Early Access is the foundation of a larger single-player experience. During development, existing missions and gameplay systems will continue to be improved while new story content, weapons, enemies and missions are added.

Player feedback will help shape combat balance, mission design, enemy behavior, difficulty, optimization and the overall gameplay experience.

Key Features

A Story Inspired by Real Events

Experience a fictional story built around real events and locations from World War II, including the Battle of Czajankova Barracks and the activities of the Three Kings resistance group.

Historical events serve as the foundation for a larger fictional story involving espionage, secret German projects and the mysterious organization Habitus.

Tactical WWII Combat

Fight your way through enemy positions using a variety of period weapons.

Choose how to approach different situations, use the environment to your advantage and adapt when combat does not go according to plan.

Weapons use ballistic systems designed to give firefights a more grounded and physical feel.

Sabotage and Infiltration

Not every operation is about attacking the enemy head-on.

Infiltrate hostile areas, gather information, eliminate important targets and sabotage enemy equipment and installations.

Different missions emphasize different styles of play, from direct combat to more careful infiltration.

Tanks, Vehicles and Heavy Weapons

Combat is not limited to fighting on foot.

Drive tanks, trucks and cars, or operate heavy machine guns and cannons during selected missions.

Vehicles are an important part of both combat and mission variety.

Destructible Environments

Parts of the environment can be damaged or destroyed during combat.

Explosions, heavy weapons and vehicle combat can change the battlefield and create unexpected situations.

Reactive Enemies

Enemies react to combat situations and changes around them using a Utility AI-based system.

They can reposition, react to threats and sometimes behave in unexpected ways, but they are still being actively developed and improved throughout Early Access.

Characters and Dialogue

Interact with characters through dialogue and learn more about the people, events and organizations surrounding Eduard's story.

The narrative is told partly through missions and partly retrospectively through an interrogation that slowly reveals what happened.

Dynamic Environments

Selected missions feature changing weather, different times of day and interactive environmental elements designed to strengthen the atmosphere of occupied Europe and the battlefield.

The Story

Eduard Pěnkava begins his journey as a young soldier caught in events much larger than himself.

From the defense of Czajankova Barracks, his path gradually leads him toward resistance operations, sabotage missions and eventually the secret organization known as Habitus.

As the war progresses, Eduard becomes involved in operations targeting German forces and secret projects while also trying to protect the people closest to him.

His story combines fictional characters with historical events and explores loyalty, sacrifice, betrayal and the moral uncertainty of war.

The Early Access release contains the first four missions of this story, with additional chapters planned throughout development.

Historical Authenticity

Unknown Operations: The Habitus is inspired by real history, but it is not intended to be a strict historical simulation.

Weapons and selected vehicles are recreated with an emphasis on historical accuracy, while some locations, buildings, clothing and events have been adapted due to the scope of the project and the needs of the fictional story.

The goal is to capture the atmosphere of the period while still allowing the game to tell its own story.

A Solo-Developed Project

Unknown Operations: The Habitus is primarily developed by a solo developer.

Because of the scale of the project, Early Access allows the game to grow together with its community. Feedback, bug reports and player experiences will directly help determine which areas need the most attention during development.

Graphics and Technology

The game is built in Unreal Engine 5.8 and uses technologies including Lumen, Nanite and MegaLights.

Multiple graphics presets are available to make the game playable across a range of hardware.

Hardware Ray Tracing is supported on compatible graphics cards and can be enabled manually in the graphics settings.

Generative AI Disclosure

Generative AI was used during development as part of the production process.

Some visual assets, including inventory and in-game images, originally used AI-generated material as a base. These assets were subsequently manually reworked by a commissioned human artist before being used in the game.

Temporary AI-generated voice material may also be used during Early Access. The goal is to replace this material with human-performed voice acting where development resources allow.

No generative AI content is created dynamically while the game is being played.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

I currently use generated images and dialogues for the game. In the future, I plan to record all dialogues with real actors.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Unknown Operations: The Habitus features realistic depictions of violence associated with wartime conflicts, including gunfights, explosions, and injuries. The game also includes scenes that may be emotionally challenging, such as the death of close characters.

The game does not contain sexual content or themes such as rape or non-consensual sex. Additionally, excessive drug or alcohol use and self-harm are not present. However, certain gameplay situations and decisions may present moral dilemmas that could be emotionally challenging for some players.
