About This Game

From Surcutt-P and Nivrel comes a deconstruction of a role-playing game.

Even on other worlds rules are important. Especially if not following them could result in a mass extinction event.
As William Marshal you were granted the position of Inquisiter - your task is to investigate and deal with violations against the code.

Key features:

  • Minimalistic RPG mechanics
  • Simple, impactful dueling combat - fights happen occasionally, mostly as part of the story.
  • No grinding, crafting or other timewasters
  • Genuine conversations with intriguing characters.
  • Eccentric world with a bizarre society - you may feel uncomfortable with their alien customs or you might fit right in.
  • Glide through semi-open locations, following environmental storylines.
  • Navigation involves context clues (no minimap GPS) - but it won't leave you hanging.
  • Focus on the in-world mood and feel - cutscenes and other flowbreakers appear sparingly.
  • Frequent choices in story and dialogue... do they affect the story? Sure, to an extent. Do they matter? ... well... let's not get too existential right away...
  • Mostly created by two... individuals.

TRAVEL IN YOUR VOID-SAIL CARRIER

Circle Erei in your own Void-sail Carrier - your base of operations. From there you will plan your next move, pick the next critical mission or select a destination to visit (only if you want to - no mandatory exploration quotas here).

You will gradually unlock more destinations in the Skyline system. The planet of Erei is so vast and barren that (despite advanced technology) travel will take literal hours... Thankfully you can sleep through it all.

ASSEMBLE A TEAM

Making allies is a crucial part of your journey - both personally and strategically. Collect a group of specialized companions - pick one to follow you on each mission.

Move your way up the enigmatic society of Cortex and broker alliances between Clusters - mostly through conversation choices. Do the choices matter? Does anything? Anyway, you will meet an intriguing cast of characters. But only you ultimately decide what kind of relationships and friendships you make.

EXPLORE THE STRANGENESS

Erei is a peculiar place - bizarre events turned it into a mix of concrete blocks, futuristic chrome and medieval huts. Traverse the semi-open locations on your way to complete tasks and to uncover the mystery of Erei's past.

That is not a shield on your back! With your Glider you will flow effortlessly across the landscape - nobody wants to jog all the way after all. On the topic of annoyance, there is no grinding and very limited looting. Your biggest challenge will likely be navigating the various environmental storylines in each location.

NO MONSTERS? FIGHT HUMANS

Occasionally dangerous enemies may stand in your way - defeat them in duel focused tactical combat - rewarding slower pacing and reading opponents over furious button-mashing.

A selection of disruptive special abilities will come in handy to turn the course of battle as well as some upgrades... not too many though. There are multiple weapons to choose from but it would be wiser to stick to your trusty blade - other weapons may prove too ...experimental.

Regardless, most of your time will be likely spent aimlessly wandering the remote desolate landscape and pondering existence before deciding to get back to your primary objective - Fighting the Void.

Still here? There is nothing to find beyond this point.

But since you are already present… Join us in this offering we must make…
If it doesn’t make much sense, fear not - it’s not for you, it’s for Them.

Now repeat after me:

Endless desert hiding in darkness.
The sole descendant perished. Illustrious bloodlines fading away. Death without honor. The elders be damned. A mass exodus is sure to follow.
This epoch has concluded …and my journey ends.
Destiny perhaps, the traveler pondered.
First ray of light. The deep blue gently shifting to a crimson hue above the horizon.
A dawn for eternity.
Final rest under the watchful gleam of a million stellar eyes.
Bless his soul.

Very crude. But that’s how they wish it.
Let’s continue…

Shadow behind the pillars of the gate. A mystery. Concrete tower, wires of rust - rather dystopian.
A blurry shape in the corner of a strained eye.
Suddenly a war cry. Safe passage. All lies.
Foe pushed aside. Blade strikes. Rhythm of combat. Streak of red.
A shiny ring hits the ground. A flurry of severed fingers follows.
A grimace of shock. A strand of dark liquid flowing from the exposed vein.
Pandemonium. Until a final scream. Then nothing. Dead don’t speak.
A grim smile in the silence.

They are drawn to the vivid imagery, they favor raw grotesque drama over intricate meaning.
We are almost there…

Hyper drive quiet... system down. Thrusters zero. No protocol to be found. No god either.
Just three lost souls against the vast expanse of space. A dream of exploration.
Then they saw it. Thought to be a myth... a fantasy… but it was right there burning in their eyes.
A sense of divinity. Overwhelming.
Against the code... Strictly forbidden. Tried to stop them, begged them - yet his pleadings had no effect at all.
So it was decided. The breaker made a loud hiss. The last sound before they were swallowed by the black oblivion below.

It’s over.
We have fulfilled our duty.

Triumph in Tranquility.
