What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“S.E.R.T has a very large scope of features. It is not feasible to implement all of them prior to release, and I would like to involve player feedback in the development process.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“S.E.R.T will be in Early Access for at least six months after release, while I develop new content, work out bugs, and incorporate community feedback. My goal is to have it out of Early Access roughly 6-12 months after release, though it may be longer.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full version of S.E.R.T, I plan to create significantly more maps and entities for players to work with. I may also add more difficulty levels and medications, as well as revising the medication and combat systems as needed.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The initial release of the early access version will contain two main maps, two main entities, and a relatively small pool of medications. From there, I plan to gradually add new maps and entities as I establish a good workflow and iron out any issues.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Upon leaving early access, I plan to raise the price of S.E.R.T to match the additional content that has been added during the early access stage.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“One of my primary reasons for choosing early access is to incorporate player feedback into S.E.R.T. Whether that is finding and removing bugs, rebalancing enemies, or introducing more features, I plan to use community feedback as a significant factor in the development process. I can be reached for feedback in the Subsurface Studios Discord server under the username 'rose932,' or using the support email listed below.”

About This Game

Join fellow members of the elite Supernatural Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T) as you rescue victims of paranormal entities!

S.E.R.T is a mix of a tactical FPS and a medical simulation game. Paranormal entities like living shadows, fire spirits, and even the undead have been reported inside several locations. Your job, as a S.E.R.T operator, is to stop the threat, find and treat the survivors, and get them out.

S.E.R.T is played entirely in co-op multiplayer. It is designed for 2-6 players, but you can play completely solo if you wish. You can pick from a variety of difficulty levels to tailor your experience, whether you prefer combat, patient care, or a combination in between.

Customize your loadout and appearance!

As you rescue more patients and stop more anomalies, you will gain money and experience. This allows you to unlock more advanced rescue and fighting equipment, from incense and table salt, to flashbangs and breaching charges. Customize your character to your liking, from your uniform and equipment to the patches on your helmet.

Engage and eliminate anomalous threats!

If you're a fan of tactical FPS gameplay and fast-paced room clearing, you've come to the right place. Break down doors and directly engage anomalous entities to eliminate the threat to patients, protect your teammates, and keep casualties low. You'll need to watch out for your teammates playing the medical role as they triage and resuscitate patients injured by the entities. In the meantime, you'll have to fight off the entity itself - no simple task. If you're feeling extra brave, you can even eliminate the entity entirely for a bit of extra cash and a chance to breathe.

As much fun as it can be fun to directly engage the anomaly, you need to be careful! Some entities can certainly be stopped with a few well-placed 5.56 rounds, but for others all that will do is seal your fate.

Fight for your patients' lives in a detailed medical simulation!

Fancy the medic role? Whether you're applying a pressure dressing to a wound from a Shade tentacle, or splinting a limb broken by debris from a Revenant attack, you will need to fight to keep your patients alive and stable. In the meantime, your teammates will have to cover your back as you triage, treat, and evacuate patients as fast as you can. Start off with a basic automated assessment given by your patient scanner, and as you learn to analyze vital signs and injuries yourself, you will see patient outcomes drastically improve.

S.E.R.T's medical system features a variety of detailed simulations tuned to be plausible while still being fun to play. Blood loss is simulated in real-time, with interventions ranging from wound packing to tourniquets having real benefits and drawbacks. Place an IV catheter in a patient's vein and you can administer medications and transfuse blood to keep them alive and stable until evacuation. In adverse conditions or more remote environments, you'll need to carefully manage your patient's temperature and exposure to keep them on this side of the veil.

Go for a bit of both!

S.E.R.T has no dedicated class system - whatever you're familiar with and can carry, you can use. Want to clear a room by yourself, and treat the patients inside? Go ahead! Want to focus entirely on combat? Load yourself up with armor and a weapon and fight! Favor the support role? Keep your equipment light and move quickly to rescue patients, then make your way out!

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Patients in-game can be gravely injured by paranormal entities, sometimes in grotesque ways. Amputations and eviscerations are not uncommon and the player must rapidly treat these injuries to save patients.

Players can administer a variety of controlled medications to patients, because they play as licensed medical professionals. Improper use of these medications could lead to adverse effects, overdose, or death.
