What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“With Chernobyl: Simulator, we want to ensure the game not only stays true to our vision, but also reflects what the community actually wants to experience. At its core, this is a simulation-heavy game — and deep, interconnected systems take time to get right.
Early Access gives us the opportunity to build alongside our players. The simulation systems are designed to be modular and expandable, meaning we can layer in new mechanics, refine existing ones, and connect them in ways that make the experience more rewarding the deeper you go. Player feedback is invaluable for knowing which systems feel satisfying, which need more depth, and where the game should grow next.
We'd rather develop this in the open with a community of people who are as passionate about this subject as we are, than ship something finished in isolation.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're planning for roughly one year in Early Access. During that time, we'll be shipping smaller, frequent updates on a regular basis, alongside larger systems-wide updates every 3–4 months. Keeping a consistent update cadence isn't just a goal — it's central to how we're building the game, ensuring there's always something new for players to dig into as development progresses.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The current version of Chernobyl: Simulator is fully playable and stands on its own, but it represents the foundation rather than the ceiling. Currently, one of the three operating pults is complete — with the remaining two, VIUB and VIUT, planned for the full release alongside other major additions such as the SKALA computer system, a non-operational control room, core refueling mechanics, and multiplayer interactions.
Beyond these planned additions, there are still areas we want to explore — and the community will play a meaningful role in shaping what those become. Player feedback will help us decide where to go deeper, what to add, and how to make the full release the most complete and authentic experience possible.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core of the simulation is up and running. The VIUR operator pult is fully implemented, featuring a neutronics simulation of the reactor alongside automatic regulation systems and all necessary protections — implemented according to the pre-disaster Chernobyl operational manual. This includes thermal feedback (Doppler effect), xenon poisoning, and fuel burnup, giving the reactor simulation real physical depth. Together, these systems give players an authentic, technically grounded experience of managing the reactor from day one.
The remaining two operating pults, VIUB and VIUT, along with other planned systems, will be added throughout the Early Access period.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, Chernobyl: Simulator is priced lower during Early Access. As major systems and features are added over time, the price will increase to reflect the growing scope of the game. If you're interested, getting in early is the best way to support development and lock in the lower price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback is at the heart of how we develop Chernobyl: Simulator — and it already has been. Several features and adjustments in the current version came directly from player suggestions, and that's something we intend to carry throughout the entire Early Access period.
The best place to be part of that conversation is our Discord, where we share updates, discuss upcoming features, and take on board what players want to see. It's a small but dedicated community, and we'd love for you to be part of it.
Ultimately, the goal is simple: make the best and most authentic simulator we can, and player feedback is essential to getting there.”

About This Game

Chernobyl Simulator puts you in the control room of the most infamous nuclear power plant in history. Step into the shoes of a Chernobyl reactor operator, where every switch, gauge, and decision matters. Experience the pressure, responsibility, and unforgiving complexity of Soviet-era nuclear operations.

You will manage the systems of Reactor 4—core, thermal output, water flow, turbine load, safety mechanisms, and more—while navigating authentic procedures based on real historical documentation. As the situation escalates, you must react quickly and precisely. One wrong move can set off a chain reaction that spirals out of control.

Key Features

  • Authentic Nuclear Power Plant Simulation
Operate detailed and realistic reactor systems modeled after the RBMK-1000 design. Understand how each subsystem interacts and how your actions affect the reactor.

  • Dynamic Scenarios & Emergencies
Start with routine operations, then face unexpected complications—from minor fluctuations to catastrophic failures.

  • Historical Atmosphere
Immerse yourself in the iconic 1980s Soviet industrial environment with carefully recreated interiors, equipment, and documentation.

  • Learn How a Nuclear Reactor Works
Master complex engineering systems through interactive tutorials, guided procedures, and hands-on experimentation.

  • Multiple Endings
Will you maintain stable output? Cause a near miss? Or witness the plant push past the point of no return?

Chernobyl Simulator offers a tense, educational, and deeply engaging look into one of the world’s most significant technological disasters. Can you keep the reactor stable—or will history repeat itself?
