What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Chronocide is a work in progress but the aim is to start having it available as soon as possible for interested players. Besides the useful feedback and balance changes that will follow (especially since the game is playable by 1-4 players), there is a very real world in which there are things for me as a developer to pay for, such as software licenses, voice actors and the like. Having a bit of an income while developing the last parts of the game will be extremely helpful.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The goal is to have the base game available in EA and released sometime in late 2024. This will make it possible to churn out the content that's left and polish, optimize, etc. the game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early access will contain the first of three acts in the base game.
I plan to add more levels, enemies, traps, weapons and other items in chunks during 2024.

After the base game is complete, the plan is to release three more acts, one act per paid DLC.

I plan to release balance changes and bug fixes will be continuously.

I plan to have the soundtrack available at some point during 2024 as a standalone product and also bundled with the game for a lesser price then if purchased separately.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The early access version includes the first of three acts in the base game. All weapons, traps and enemies that will be contained in the act will be in the game.
Balance testing has been going on continuously but this will definitely be something I will be monitoring and adjusting on a regular basis.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The base game's price will remain the same during and after early access (except for temporary, event based discounts).
I plan on adding paid DLCs, but these will cost less than the base game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will be engaging with community feedback and taking suggestions into account when developing the game. Balance suggestions and such will also be appreciated.
What this game does, it needs to do well.”

About This Game

Chronocide brings a horde of undead for you to shoot, burn, crush, throw, impale, poison, freeze and hurt in other imaginative ways.

Grind your enemies down on their way to the temporal portals with cleverly placed traps and your weapons. Save civilization from being wiped out while you're at it. Earn up to 5 stars per level, each grade rewards more points to use for acquiring items or upgrading your hero, traps and weapons. Every hero can acquire neutral traps/weapons and some traps/weapons that are only available to them.

The campaign can be played in solo or co-op mode (up to 4 players).

This game is meant to be challenging. If at first you don't succeed at a level, try, try again.

Or switch to casual difficulty (and earn less stars if you complete the level).

Missing stars on a level? Replay it to increase your rewards.

Basically, Chronocide is an indie developer's manifestation of love for physics and tower defense.

Original soundtrack by Malin Eriksson.

TL;DR

Footage, content and gameplay is subject to change at any time during the early access period.

During early access, content will be released continuously until the 3 acts that wraps up the main story are complete. Every act consists of 8 levels.

The number of traps, weapons, enemy types and levels will increase with time.

NOTE: Only 1 act is available so far in the early access.

This will change further along development.

Also, there will be bugs.

Hopefully, any such arising will be easy to find and get rid of with the help of the community.

The base game will contain the first 3 acts which is the main story arc.

As you progress through the acts, more traps, weapons and other items will be available.

Play through the campaign to unlock more game modes.

The 4 available heroes play very differently and complement eachother;

- Waldis the wizard - expert in elemental damage, using mostly projectile weapons.

- Rolanda the paladin - employs buffs/debuffs and uses (mostly) melee weapons.

- Mike the soldier - uses instant-hit bullet weapons that require mana to reload.

- Anthia the necromancer - inflicts spell damage instead of wielding weapons, also has access to minions.
