What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We're excited to introduce Forty-Niner to you through Early Access, a game born from our passion for the Wild West and survival exploration. This phase is crucial for us; it's where your feedback becomes the cornerstone of development, allowing us to refine and evolve the game alongside our community. By joining us now, you're not just playing a game - you're helping shape its future. Let's build the ultimate Wild West experience together.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our journey in Early Access is guided by community input. We plan to refine gameplay, add features like our living NPC, and expand biomes over approximately 24 months. We'll introduce new roles, areas, and quests based on player feedback. Our goal is to release a high-quality game that reflects our vision and community desires, even if it takes longer than two years.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our vision is to enrich the game world with more dynamic biomes, intricate NPC ecosystems, and expanded crafting and building systems. We're looking to introduce additional factions, roles, and more nuanced survival mechanics, alongside a broader scope for exploration and interaction within the game's living, breathing environment.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The "About this game" section provides a comprehensive overview of what players can currently enjoy in the Early Access version of Forty-Niner. We're excited to offer an immersive experience in the Wild West of 1849, featuring a blend of survival, strategy, role-playing, and sandbox gameplay. Procedurally generated environments and quests will provide you with an infinite amount of entertainment and in-game interactions.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“As Forty-Niner evolves during the Early Access phase with new content and features, we plan to gradually increase the price leading up to the official release. This strategy reflects the added value and improvements made to the game, and we'll ensure to communicate any changes transparently to our players.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We deeply value our community's input and are committed to integrating your feedback into our development process. We plan to engage with players through Steam forums, our Discord server, social media, and an in-game feedback tool creating a direct line for suggestions and discussions. Community-driven events and challenges will further engage players, allowing us to gather insights and adapt the game to your preferences.”

About This Game

Inspired by the real Gold Rush era that swept across the American frontier, Forty-Niner drops you into a procedurally generated Wild West - no two frontiers, boomtowns, or ghost towns are ever the same. There's no scripted story here: gangs and factions rise out of the towns themselves, taking over territories and shifting as the world keeps moving around you - and the side quests you take can tip the balance.

A Frontier That Fights Itself

Bandit gangs and factions form organically from the towns around you, rising, falling, or taking over territory over time. Every settler follows their own schedule and forms their own opinion of you - help them, trade with them, or cross them, and word travels. Wind down at the saloon for a hand of poker, and watch the frontier's residents live lives of their own, day or night.

Reshape a Procedural Frontier

Dig tunnels, carve mines, and terraform the land itself. Boomtowns, abandoned mines, and ghost towns look different in every world you generate.

A World in Motion

Night brings real danger - bandit raids grow and wildlife becomes more aggressive once the sun goes down. Storms can kill: heavy rain drops the temperature, and fog or dusty storms can cut visibility to nothing if you're caught out unprepared.

From Tent to Train Station

Build up a homestead from a canvas tent to a full saloon and working railway, gathering resources from caves, rivers, and the open plains.

Guns, Bows, and Grit

Fight with revolvers, rifles, and bows in real third-person gunfights, customize your loadout, and take down wildlife or rival outlaws.

Live Off the Land

Plant and water tomatoes and wheat, hunt and fish for meat, and cook it all over a campfire.

Make Your Outlaw

Customize your character's look, male or female, and grow your skills through the quests and challenges you choose to take on.

Host Your Own Frontier

Play alone, or host a world right from your own PC and invite friends to join - no dedicated server required.

Every outlaw who rides into the frontier is running from something, or looking for it. Uncover why you came, one choice at a time - multiple story endings tied to your reason are planned for the full 1.0 release, with Early Access laying the groundwork first.

Wishlist Forty-Niner now and follow along as the frontier takes shape.
