What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Let's Build a Dungeon is a game dev sim meets RPG builder, with multiple modes and a game making sandbox. We received a lot of great feedback following the launch of our Steam demo, which inspired a series of new ideas for how we'd like to keep improving the game.

Releasing in Early Access means we can share core elements of the game with you, whilst continuing to gather additional feedback and make the game the best it can be. We want to make sure you can access the game's depth in an accessible way, whilst playing the game in the way that you want to.

”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect the game to be in Early Access for around 12 months. This may change as we continue to review feedback and work closely with the community to bring the game to full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The 1.0 version of Let's Build a Dungeon will include more quests, additional in-game milestones, new features, more Creative Tools and a bunch of other weird, unexpected things that we're not quite ready to talk about yet!

For Campaign Mode, we want to make sure that players have the tools they need to balance their studio simulation, from the fun of world building, all the way down to looking at a virtual player's gear, current quests and progress. The full version will feature a longer campaign mode to take your game studio all the way from Early Access to a full 1.0 game launch.

For Creative Mode, we're essentially building an accessible game engine within a game. We want to allow as much creative freedom as possible and plan to get there by fine-tuning each Creative Tool and leaning into player feedback. On a personal level, there are a few small games we want to be able to make using the Let's Build a Dungeon tools that we don't quite have the flexibility to make yet. So we know there are more things to add, and we're looking forward to developing new tools and adding usability tweaks to existing ones.

Each game mode (Campaign Mode, Creative Mode, Just Build Mode and Dungeoneering) will receive specific updates by full release, and we plan to share the details of these updates throughout Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Let's Build a Dungeon has been in development for almost 5 years, and we've squeezed a lot of things into it in that time! The Early Access release will include:

- Campaign Mode
- Just Build Mode
- Creative Mode

In Campaign Mode you'll run your game studio, design a custom MMORPG and manage it all the way through to the in-game Early Access launch - all at final release quality. There are multiple quest pillars to choose from and thousands of hand-drawn assets to build with, making for near endless replayability. From this point onwards, you'll be joining us on our real world journey to bring Let's Build a Dungeon from Early Access to full 1.0 release.

The second main area of the game is Creative Mode. Building a tool set that allows you to make your own games, but remains accessible, is a challenging prospect. We set out to make an engine that can build lots of different genres of games, but the real test is finding out how the community want to use them when building their own games. Some of our Creative Tools are not final, but we want to invite you to try them out and see what you can do! Existing tools include: Character Creator, Conversation Editor, Inventory Editor, Portrait Editor, Quest Builder and more.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price after Early Access. Purchasing the game during Early Access for a lower price not only helps to support our team, but means you can share direct feedback on how the game will be shaped for 1.0.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We'll continue to collect feedback through Discord and in-game surveys, and will also share access to our public task board to provide an approximate list of what we are working on. We'll also host monthly developer streams to showcase new and upcoming content.”
