What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As we approached our original November 2023 release date, it became clear to us that we would not be able to deliver on our intended scope of a 15-hour RPG with 4 unique character classes, each with their own personal take on the main story quest.

The cause for delay was not the campaign content itself, however, but those additional characters. So while we knew we would could not deliver the full scope, we realized we would still have a completed main story quest with two of our four characters!

Early Access thus felt like a win-win situation for us. Eager fans could purchase the game in Early Access and experience a fully-featured, content-complete main story quest with the cosmic witch and her cat familiar, Tali and Jiji, or the street fighter, Neat. And for those players, the play experience would feel similiar to playing the finished game!

But for everyone else, the developer team would have additional time to work on the berserker and technomancer classes and storylines, while also having more opportunity to deliver fun features or side content. Additionally, we are excited to involve our player-base in this final stretch of development and hear about the features that matter most to them or learn which pieces of Tower Song's world they want to experience more of.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We anticipate leaving Early Access in Spring 2024.

We are also open to continuing development based on demand for additional features and content, but as we remain committed to our promise to deliver a 15-20 hour long RPG, at a certain point, it will not make sense to continue adding scope to the game. And as we have mentioned, the main story quest is already playable!”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The basic criteria for Tower Song to exit Early Access into the full version is the implementation of the Ezoan the Technomancer's story - the final character. (Porphry the Fury was released in Early Access in February 2024.)

However, along the way, we also have ideas to expand the game with side quests and new features such as a relationship system. However, the development of these features will depend on player feedback and what we find to have the most impact on players' experience. For instance, we might scale up story-heavy side quests if that resonates with players, and we might scale back camp dialogue or relationship systems if player interest in such things is low.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Tower Song's Early Access version will feature a completely playable main story quest with 2 of the 4 planned player characters. The main quest campaign is estimated to be between 10-15 hours in length and takes players all the way up to the end credits.

Playable Characters

  • Tali the Cosmic Witch and Jiji the Nekomata
  • Neat the Street Fighter
  • Porphry the Fury

Planned Characters

  • Ezoan the Technomancer

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, Tower Song will be available at a lower price point during Early Access. Aside from sales and discounts, we expect this price to remain static until the full release, when we will evaluate our final listing price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“New features and content updates will be announced to players through Steam. Players can also get involved in our community Discord to engage the developer team directly to provide feedback and suggestions or report bugs.

As we work through our development process, we will also give our players opportunities to chime in on the value of proposed features so that player input can help guide our prioritization decisions during planning! (We expect to conduct this involvement primarily through Discord.)”
