Why Early Access?

“Even though Halls of Torment’s core gameplay appears to be simple, there’s a lot going on in the underlying design. We want the game to provide genuine depth in character builds and meta progression. The game contains RPG elements that make this kind of depth possible: character stats, items, monsters, quests, abilities—you name it. With so many moving parts, we need continuous feedback from a larger player base to create the best game experience possible. For us, this is only possible in an Early Access setting.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Update: Because of the support and trust given to us, we are able to allocate more resources into the game than originally intended. We will be expanding our planned content and therefore will need longer than six months in Early Access. We currently estimate working on the game for 12-18 months, so it should release in 2024.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our intention is to increase the game’s replayability for the final version, specifically with an increased number of player characters, stages, quests, and items. This will also include unique and bespoke mechanics for specific characters and items. We want to provide a longer meta progression, improve balancing based on playtests and player feedback, and polish the experience overall.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core mechanics and the general structure of the game are pretty much finished. There are two playable stages with four bosses each, and a maximum duration of 30 minutes per run. We currently have an initial roster of four player characters, approximately 40 items, and a moderately-sized collection of initial character abilities and traits. Players can already complete quests and unlock gated content.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“After Early Access, the price may increase depending on the content added to the final version.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want to be in touch with our players throughout the entire development process. We have an active Discord server, which we personally moderate, where our community discusses the current version of the game. We always keep an eye on the Steam forums, where we read every post and try to gather as much feedback as possible.”
