What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“SpaceCorps is an online MMO, and an MMO only gets good with real pilots in it. The game is already playable on a live server, but it needs players to find balance problems, broken content and missing features that a small team cannot see alone.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly 6 months: we expect to leave Early Access around June 2027. We don't want to promise a date, because the planned content, the balance and the seasons have to settle first, and we will say plainly on this page and in our announcements where we are.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is the same game with more of it: more ranks of ships, shields, engines and other items (some ranks are not available yet), more sectors, aliens and quests, macOS and Linux builds, and steadier balance between companies. It should not change in what it is: a space MMO where you fly for a company, hunt aliens and fight other pilots.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“You can play today: register a pilot, enlist with a company, fly, fight aliens and pilots, build and craft ships and gear, join a clan and take part in the 30-day seasons. Expect rough edges, unfinished content and balance changes. Seasons end with a wipe: ships and items are removed, except your active ship with its gear, your drones and your Transport Cache; credits, Thulium, level and Skylab carry over. You need an internet connection to play.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“SpaceCorps is free to play. We do not plan to change that.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Yes. We read your reports and feedback on the Steam forums and on our Discord, and we build the game around what pilots do. Balance, quests and new content come partly from what players tell us.”

About This Game

Early alpha

SpaceCorps is a space MMO in early alpha. It is playable today on the live server, and it is still changing: balance, content and the UI move with every update, and seasons end with a wipe. Come fly with us, tell us what breaks, and help shape it on Discord.

What you do

  • Fly and fight. Click to fly, click to target, press A to open fire. Every key can be rebound.

  • Join a company. Enlist with Mars, Terra or Galactic. Each holds its own home sectors, and four Danger Sectors (DS-1 to DS-4) lie between them, with a black hole in the middle of DS-4.

  • Hunt aliens for credits, Thulium and loot. Destroyed ships and aliens drop cargo boxes, and being shot down never costs you your items.

  • Fight other pilots. PvP points come from player kills only, repeated kills of the same pilot pay less, and safe zones and a peace period protect new pilots.

  • Build your ship. Fit lasers, shields, engines and drones, pick laser ammo, keep two configurations per ship and swap them mid-flight (C).

  • Rockets and abilities. Fourteen rockets (twelve to buy in four kinds, two you craft), Shield Surge, Afterburner and Emergency Repair, a Cloaking CPU and an EMP Charge.

  • Craft and upgrade. Make gear in the Assembly, raise it tier by tier in the Forge, and grow your Skylab, an orbital base that produces while you are offline.

  • Fleets. Found or join a fleet (a clan): ranks and a shared bank.

  • Play together. Team up in groups of up to five pilots from any company. Chat has Global, Local and Group tabs, and you can hide Global, ignore a pilot or report one. Invite Friends gives a new friend a starter pack and gives you Thulium when they reach level 5.

  • Seasons. A season lasts about a month and opens with three days of peace. At the wipe ships and items are removed, except your active ship with its gear, your drones and your Transport Cache. Your credits, Thulium, level, Skylab, fleet and permanent boosts carry over.

Built on Space3d, our own engine

SpaceCorps does not run on Unity or Unreal. It runs on Space3d, a game engine we wrote ourselves in Rust, on top of wgpu. It is a small, fast, modular engine, and we are proud of it: HDR rendering with bloom and image-based lighting, glTF models with normal, roughness and emissive maps, a shadow-casting sun, GPU particle effects, an ECS with a fixed 60 Hz simulation tick, and built-in test tools that run the game headless and compare golden screenshots. The game, its UI and the authoritative MMO server are all our own code.

In this early version

  • Windows first. macOS, Linux and other platforms are on their way.

  • You need an internet connection: the game is an online MMO.

  • The interface is available in English, Swedish, German, French, Italian, Hungarian, Russian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese. Item, ship and alien names and the wiki are English for now, and the translations are not yet reviewed by native speakers.

  • Expect rough edges, unfinished content (some ship and item ranks are not yet available) and the occasional wipe.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Parts of this game's content were made with generative AI tools: the in-game texts and the wiki were written or drafted with AI, and the translations into languages other than English were written with AI and have not yet been reviewed by native speakers. Parts of the game's code and tools were written with AI assistance. The game does not use AI to generate content while you play and does not connect to any AI service.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

May contain intensive fights that include getting your ship destroyed (with respawn possibility)
