About This Content

To say “the B&A” to a New England railroader or railroad enthusiast required no further explanation. The B&A was the Boston & Albany, which true to its name stretched between its namesake cities. The B&A was, at once, a busy urban railroad, host to commuter and passenger trains en route to and from Boston, and a mountain railroad, providing a busy freight artery over the rugged spine of the Berkshire Mountains. And yet even at that, the B&A was more, because it also represented the east end of the legendary New York Central Railroad.

Now, the Boston & Albany and famed New York Central come to life in a landmark Train Simulator Classic route developed by renowned developer G-traX Simulations!

As masterfully and meticulously created for Train Simulator Classic by G-traX, the Boston & Albany: Boston - Springfield Route for Train Simulator Classic features the eastern portion of the B&A extending 98 multi-track main line route miles from magnificent South Station in Boston to West Springfield, Mass., as well as including a number of adjoining NYC branch lines. The route is set in the last decade of the New York Central era.

Richly detailed and populated with beautiful renditions of such historic landmarks as Boston South Station, Worcester Union Station, and the superlative stone stations designed by famed 19th-century architect Henry Hobson Richardson, the B&A for Train Simulator Classic is host to classic-era passenger, commuter, freight, and switching action!

The Boston & Albany: Boston - Springfield route includes four notable types of Alco (American Locomotive Company) diesel power, keynoted by the stylish and admired Alco PA passenger diesel in striking New York Central “lightning stripe” livery. Joining the PA are NYC’s workhorse Alco RS3 diesel road-switcher and Alco FA freight locomotive, plus the B&A’s own venerable Alco HH600 diesel switcher.

Operations on the B&A required a wide range of rolling stock, and the B&A route for Train Simulator Classic delivers a diverse and rich selection of passenger and freight equipment true to the era. Included with the route are ten types of freight rolling stock in multiple versions and a variety of liveries, including B&A, NYC, NYC’s subsidiaries, and other New England railroads. Passenger equipment includes heavyweight baggage and coaches, plus streamlined coaches, sleeper, and dining car. And to put you right to work as a B&A engineer, the route includes twelve career scenarios featuring passenger, freight, and switching challenges.

The Boston & Albany and New York Central stood among America’s greatest and most remarkable of railroads, and now the experience of the B&A can be yours – with the superlative and bustling Boston & Albany: Boston - Springfield Route for Train Simulator Classic!
