Leaving Early Access: 2026

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“OVRLRD is a complex game with many interlocking systems. I'm a solo developer, which means I have no in-house testers or designers. This makes it vital that I get bug reports and feedback on my design before releasing OVRLRD in 1.0.

I want OVRLRD to ship with a fully fleshed-out single-player campaign, not just randomly-generated missions, and I want the campaign to be the best experience a player can have instead of a glorified tutorial. Just like the gameplay systems, the campaign needs at least partial feedback before releasing in 1.0.

OVRLRD is for the enthusiasts, and Early Access players tend to be willing to give unusual things a chance. Before reaching the general public, I want to find an audience who really understand the goal of the project.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It’s hard to say. OVRLRD's core systems are solid, so the remaining work is mostly in expanding these systems, adding fun features, building more content and refining visuals and audio. I plan to stay in Early Access just long enough to build out the single-player campaign and some fun new 'big' features before jumping to 1.0 and continuing development.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The plan is to release 1.0 once OVRLRD has a full single player campaign. I also intend to expand the mech customisation features, add more system depth to the simulation, and build out the replayable 'career' mode to make it more than just a mission generator.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“OVRLRD currently has four pilotable mechs, more than twenty mech modules to choose from, five available campaign missions, plus two training courses and a procedurally-generated skirmish function with multiple game modes.

It supports VR play with motion controllers, but also non-VR with mouse & keyboard input, as well as generic gamepad support and HOTAS config options - which are a work-in-progress.

There is also a fully-functional mission editor included, with workshop support. This editor has access to almost all the internal features I use to build the campaign, and players can share these missions freely on the workshop (or even just as zip files) to enjoy endless new content.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will be cheaper during Early Access. The appeal of the game lies in the core interaction systems and combat mechanics, which are already in place, but you won't get the full OVRLRD experience until these systems are more polished and there's a chunky campaign to stomp your way through.

Some people will be eager to try out these systems even without a full campaign to play, so it makes sense to offer an early version at a lower price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“There is an active discord server with bug reporting and feature suggestion capacity – it's not uncommon for someone to suggest a feature and find it implemented that same week. I know people playing this game are enthusiasts, so I take their ideas seriously, and they often turn out to be excellent.

If you'd like to provide feedback directly to me, you can post in the official discord server.”

About This Game

OVRLRD is a true mech simulator inspired by the classics, with a voice-acted single-player campaign, fully-featured mission editor, and native built-in VR support.

Influenced by games like Steel Battalion, VTOL VR and MechWarrior 3, OVRLRD puts you in a fully-simulated cockpit, controlling a complex war machine. Use your mouse, keyboard, HOTAS or VR controllers to manipulate physical buttons, switches, levers, throttles, joysticks and more.

Combined arms

Stomp tanks, blast infantry, strafe other mechs in close quarters, snipe the legs off your foes at mid-range, or rain artillery down on enemy bases from miles away. An OVRLRD operator is expected to dominate the battlefield in every role.

Single-player first

Embark on an intriguing single-player campaign written by a published sci-fi author, following in the large mechanical footsteps of the classics. You'll run routine patrols, long-range combat engagements, low-profile reconnaissance missions and more.

Infinite replayability

Stomp through the campaign, then meet your match in multiple skirmish game modes where the battlefield is different each time, but full of smashable buildings and forests you can raze to the ground.

Not interested in mission generators? Get the human touch with freely shareable custom missions.

Fully-featured mission editor

You heard me. The tools I use to make the campaign are at your fingertips. Use the powerful, intuitive mission editor to sculpt terrain, build cities, assemble armies and design missions with fully operational narrative flows. Triggers, scripted events, AI behaviours and more are in your toolbox, and you can share it all for free on the Steam Workshop!

More than fighting

An OVRLRD platform is a collection of dangerous systems working in tandem, and one mistake can spell disaster. An OVRLRD operator must maintain combat effectiveness while managing system temperature and coolant levels, sensor capabilities, targeting systems, drone optics and leg stability - as well as compensating for damaged or lost subsystems. Watch your step!

Ruin the battlefield

OVRLRD's custom environment system tracks the havoc you wreak across the world. Use your fifty-foot war machine to smash down buildings, scar the countryside with craters and scorchmarks, track enemy mechs by their footprints and level everything when your reactor detonates.

Deal in miles, not feet

No more cramped caves, fenced-off quarries or conveniently small arenas. You'll operate in massive outdoor environments at milsim-scale. Burn through forested hills, snipe from treacherous mountaintops, and carve paths through windswept grasslands with simulated rain, lightning, wildfires and dust storms.

VR comfort settings

Problems with motion sickness? Have a certain way you like to play? OVRLRD comes with a large and growing list of VR comfort settings, from blocking out peripheral cockpit windows and reducing visual noise to disabling aim kick and cockpit tilting. ccessibility requests are taken seriously and I want to ensure that everyone who wants to can play OVRLRD.

Blood can be seen when stomping on infantry in your mech. Some swearing and references to alcohol in lines and spoken dialogue.
