What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We believe Backrooms: Escape Together can become a truly unique project that redefines horror experiences. To achieve that goal, we think it's necessary to have the player's feedback woven into the game's core.
Early access is an opportunity for anyone who buys it now to shape the game's future while being treated with frequent large updates.
Our philosophy is instead of spending years designing levels and polishing them, it makes a lot more sense to release the levels incrementally, letting the community vote on what comes next.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to be in early access for a couple of years. But as with all things, it will come out when we feel like we have achieved our goal of providing the true Backrooms experience.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

You will be the main driver of this game. We will be actively listening and polling our Discord members for planning future updates.
That being said, we do have a few goals we would like to highlight.

Long Term Goals (Before the Full Release)

  • Have 20-30 polished high-quality levels
  • Create a nonlinear web of levels where each level leads to 3-5 other levels, providing multiple endings

Above all, the main goal will be to provide the true Backrooms experience. We want players to get lost in the levels and be truly immersed.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current state of the Early Acess is a fully playable, fun, and (mostly) bug-free game. The early access represents countless hours of our hard work and we would only ship a game that we would be eager to play ourselves and with friends. That being said, there will be some lacking features, most notably levels. However, we plan to deliver many polished new levels throughout early access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“With our commitment to constantly improving the game, we plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will be paramount to our early access journey. We intend to listen very closely to players on social media. Mainly our Steam page and Discord server!”

About This Game

Explore 7 levels, each with unique gameplay, puzzles, lootable items, environments, and entities. Every level is a mini-adventure of its own.

Levels will be added constantly throughout early access as we grow the game into the best Backrooms experience possible.

Rooms, hallways, item locations, and more are re-generated after every death or playthrough offering unparalleled replayability and ensuring playthroughs are never stale.

Made in Unreal Engine 5, Backrooms: Escape Together (B.E.T) is the first to truly capture the essence of the Backrooms. Levels are procedurally generated, packed with detail, and host gameplay designed to immerse the player. B.E.T will make you feel as if you truly are a lost wander, stuck in the Backrooms.

  • Enter the Backrooms alone or team up with 5 others for a total of 6-player co-op.
  • Dynamic proximity voice chat adapts to walls, rooms, and new environments on the fly.
  • Players can join and host lobbies, private or public.

As a team of researchers, you are tasked to explore the liminal labyrinth. However, after completing your research duties, an elevator malfunction leaves you with only 2 objectives, survival and escape.

Every entity, level, exit, and design decision has been based on the online lore of the Backrooms. We take lore accuracy seriously.

In Level 0, you are assigned various objectives such as collecting items and recording anomalies. You are tasked to complete these objectives while monitoring your sanity and avoiding the aggressive entities that call Level 0 their home.
