What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We've showcased Vivat Slovakia at every relevant exhibition, interview, or lecture, and for a while, we even shared details directly from our workshop in the form of Vivat Wednesday development diaries. We want to continue this transparent approach with our community, which is why the next natural step for us is to give our players the opportunity to actually play Vivat Slovakia and not only evaluate but also directly influence its final form.

Games like Vivat Slovakia greatly benefit from feedback, and we've discovered that collaborating directly with players during development enhances the gaming experience. Our Early Access launch aims to provide players with a rewarding experience they deserve while also enabling us to engage with the community to discover fresh gameplay possibilities. Throughout this process, we'll gradually introduce new features and address any issues to continually improve the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our estimation suggests that Vivat Slovakia may remain in Early Access for approximately 6 to 12 months. Nonetheless, we prioritize delivering a fully polished experience over adhering strictly to a timeline. Rest assured, Vivat Slovakia will transition out of Early Access only when it meets our standards of readiness.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“A-Side - Early access 18.4.2024
  • Gaming world of Bratislava
  • First half of story missions
  • Slovak voice-over with Czech and English subtitles
  • Selected StartLab rewards
  • Radio station LFO and your own music
  • Over 50 period vehicles
  • Side activities in the city
  • A day and night cycle
  • Controller support

B-Side - Full release 2024
  • All story missions
  • All StartLab rewards
  • New activities in the city
  • A dog companion
  • Public city transportation
  • ...and much more.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Vivat Slovakia currently has the complete planned map of virtual Bratislava, wherein players can freely travel on foot or by car and experience the first half of the story missions set in the wildly intriguing 90's. Our virtual city has a working day and night cycle, a wanted system, car and arms shops as well as a safe house for the main character.

The available story missions contain full voiceovers and an automatic safe/checkpoint system. The car radio includes a custom radio channel as well as the option to play your own music. For more details on features that are already implemented, please refer to the "About this game" section.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes 🔖. Our supporters during the crowdfunding campaign had the lowest price for the full game as a reward in the "I. level - Full game" tier. We'll offer a slightly higher but still reduced price for supporting the Early Access version of the game. The final price will be set upon completion of the Vivat Slovakia game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“During Early Access, we invite the entire community to actively engage in shaping the evolution of Vivat Slovakia. We encourage Early Access participants to join our Discord community, where they can directly interact with the development team and contribute to the game's future direction. Additionally, we're implementing a bug submission system directly in-game for streamlined feedback gathering. Alongside Discord, we'll be attentive to player input across our social media platforms and closely monitor discussions on the Steam Community forums. Your input is invaluable in guiding the game's development journey.”

About This Game

Vivat Slovakia is an open-world video game set in the freshly established democratic country at the border of Western and Eastern Europe, Slovakia. As old ways of communism are still not rooted out, the state enforcement agencies are weak and corruption is deeply embedded. Money and violence govern. An era well deserving of its name - the wild 90s.

Wild 90s in Bratislava:

The streets are controlled by mob gangs that are protected by law and not afraid to show their power even during broad daylight. Racketeering, exploding cars and other ways of settling scores are daily occurrences. The ways of the gangs became useful to some government's elites, who utilize them for their dirty work.

We have saying back home:

The difference between the secret service and organized crime is being blurred. Parties that should oppose each other are now hand in hand in gaining money and power. For the ordinary citizen, the connections are paramount and the only way up. One saying became widely known: "You don't have what you don't steal."

Not a typical gangster-open world:

The player finds themselves in the role of a bald man in his 30s, working for the secret police. As an undercover taxi driver, you are allowed to freely roam the town and check-up on people of interest at close proximity.

Features:

  • The game map of Bratislava covers roughly 10 km2 of a lively city.
  • Vivat Slovakia contains more than 20 story missions that are based on real events set in the 90s of the young Slovak Republic after the split of the Czechoslovak Federation.
  • The game contains professional Slovak voice-over with the main character voiced by Marián Labuda. We have prepared English subtitles for Erasmus participants, who tasted the beauty of Slovakia as well as for immigrants from the Iron Curtain period.
  • Over 30 unique period vehicles inspired by their real life counterparts roam the streets. From old socialist scrap to exclusive import cars that only bosses could afford.
  • More than 5 functional and carefully selected local weapons. In Slovakia, pleasant boys will not hit you over the head with a baseball bat, but with a telescopic baton.

Experience a slavic open world glory from the unique perspective of a secret police officer.

Vivat Slovakia is also being created thanks to successful crowdfunding:

Many players will have their own mini stories in the game or will be able to meet them as they walk around Bratislava or act as drivers of public transport in the form of their own NPCs.

We transformed the real businesses and homes of our players into game form and incorporated them into virtual Bratislava. This is what product placement should look like in a game.

Musical LFO radio with period music created by DJs and speakers of radio _FM Yanko Kral and Subtension. Talk radio made up of stand-up comedians from Silné Reči as well as the possibility of a custom radio with your own music.

In cooperation with dog shelter Sloboda Zvierat, we will be adding the option to choose your own four-legged buddy from a shelter. There are 14 different breeds to choose from in the game.
