WELCOME TO MIKE’S BUSINESS

Mike’s Business is having a difficult quarter.

Most of the staff are gone, nobody is entirely sure what the company does, and the work has not stopped arriving. Somebody still has to deal with it... Unfortunately, that somebody is you.

Mike’s Software is a fast-paced microgame roguelite about doing what ever it takes to keep Mike's Business running.

Each round is made up of short tasks that need to be completed before the timer runs out. You might have to clear a printer jam, close a virus popup, sign some paperwork, catch loose change, or deal with something that has no obvious connection to office work at all.

The instructions are usually simple. The problem is working them out quickly enough.

Complete a task and the company earns revenue. Get it wrong and the company loses money. As the run continues, the tasks become faster and there is less time to think.

When the revenue runs out, Mike’s Business collapses.

COMPANY IMPROVEMENTS

Between rounds, revenue can be spent on Add-Ons that change how the rest of the run works.

Some Add-Ons improve the amount of money earned from certain tasks. Others reduce losses, provide extra chances, or change the rules of individual microgames.

Every Add-On is presented as a completely legitimate piece of software, company policy, staffing decision, or internal service. Management has approved all of them, so there is no reason to ask too many questions.

Choosing the right Add-Ons can keep the company running for longer. Choosing the wrong ones may still be useful, depending on how badly things are already going.

THE JOB

Mike’s Software includes a mixture of computer problems, office work, physical jobs, and other tasks that Mike’s Business considers essential.

Microgames test reaction, timing, memory, coordination, and your ability to understand an instruction while a timer is counting down.

No two jobs are treated with any real difference in importance. Fixing a serious technical problem may be followed immediately by paperwork, manual labour, or something that should never have been assigned to an office employee.

Keep completing tasks, build around your Add-Ons, and try to earn as much revenue as possible before the entire operation finally falls apart.
