What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Paranoid American is a small indie publisher of comics and games, and relies on building a fanbase from other platforms like Steam. Early Access provides a way to release the game in early stages to get feedback from the most passionate players, before a final mass release.

We're hoping to use Early Access both to help keep momentum during the production process, and also to build up a larger audience over the development cycle.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Expected release date for initial Early Access is targeted for 2024, and remain in Early Access for ~24 months as player feedback drives the final version.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We would like for the full version to be more polished, have additional translations, more music and longer chapters. Even better would be some additional mini-games. We hope to achieve all of this in more in the final released version once the game leaves Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current state of Early Access is a fully functional experience with inventory items, multiple map locations, multiple characters, quests, unlockables, non-linear gameplay and branching dialogues that make each playthrough unique.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Involving the community is going to be key for this game, and we plan to actively listen and incorporate all feedback. We don't have a social media "team" so directly interaction may be limited to discord.”

About This Game

Lucifer Lives in Lower Manhattan is a Visual Novel with non-linear game play and a subtle love letter to classic adventure games of the 80s and 90s.

The Story

It's the early 1940s, and you've been invited to an apartment building in Greenwich Village, NYC in the west side of Lower Manhattan. Immediately upon arriving, you are thrust into a murder mystery which is on you to solve, discovering all types of unique individuals along the way.

The Style

All backgrounds, characters and UI were custom created by a team of talented artists. The game has a noir style mixed with a traditional art aesthetic.

The Experience

Along with being a familiar format to other Visual Novel games, Lucifer Lives in Lower Manhattan also contains some classic adventure mechanics such as click-and-point backgrounds (without the pain of pixel-hunting), combining inventory items and non-linear game play.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

This game contains illustrated nudity and sexual content in a fictional setting.
