What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Unification is already fun and robust, and Early Access will make it better. Ideas and feedback from experienced roguelike and VR fans will be invaluable. It's currently in a beta state, so it's mostly bug-free and feature complete, but ready to break and grow in new dimensions.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“4-6 months. The current iteration of the game took 2 years to build a robust core system, and content additions are relatively straightforward from here.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More biomes, enemies, items, bosses, meta upgrades. There are currently enough variations for new players to be engaged, but the goal is to create depth, accessibility, difficulty, and replayability for even the most experienced.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

  • 4 procedural biomes, with distinct enemies, traps, level designs, and rewards
  • 3 momentum playground cosmic event biomes
  • Colossal boss of the Cursed Tomb
  • 8 dynamic weapons to blast a path through
  • 6 game-changing upgrades for dreamlike power
  • Fluid and complete movement and interaction systems
  • A new experience each run

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The price will likely increase during or after Early Access based on available content and feedback from the community.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

Balancing the game:

It should a challenge to complete, without being unfair. Getting feedback from experienced runners will ensure that challenge can't be bypassed or be too difficult to counter.

Suggestions and ideas:

The community is encouraged to suggest new content and design ideas. The possibility space of the systems of Unification are vast, and learning ways that players want to engage with the game will grow it along the strongest paths.

Bug hunting:

The game has been developed with rigorous playtesting, but not every interaction works exactly as expected. This is mostly due to a codebase that evolved as the game's potential was explored, and hasn't yet been fully refactored to the ideal systems. New content will also be ambitious, working with systems in previously-undefined ways, and will be strengthened by players noticing the new problems as they appear.

Test branches:

There will be two branches of Unification available for players. A beta branch for testing new ideas, and the default branch for rest of the community to enjoy once they go through patches and fixes.”

About This Game

Unification is about a cat chasing its own laser pointer into an ancient black hole engine.
Unleash your cat instincts as Gumbot, tackling physics and critters alike! Leap and scramble up ledges, zoom with rocket parkour, shift gravity at will, and wield curious artifacts and dreamlike powers.

Fire into the surface from the orbital factory to the scorched canyon and collect the bounty of life to fuel your explosive nature. Find shops off the beaten path and work with Jacquard to restore and expand your power. Upgrade yourself between levels with lucid dreaming to control fate. Battle beasts in a dance of physics to unlock deep truths.

Features:

- Fluid and powerful physics-based movement: Feel momentum and the wind rushing past while leaping into chasms, vaulting over ledges, weaving around traps, and shifting gravity at will.

- Kinetic tools propelling you forward: Swing above traps with a grappling hook, or glide past with a parachute. Go in guns blazing with a shotgun, or slice with a katana. Forge a new path with a jackhammer, or warp through with a teleporter.
- Procedural destructible biomes filled with traps and enemies: Navigate through voxel cave obstacle courses with branching paths that test your reactions, knowledge, and control. Feel free to explore the depths and get lost. The handheld mini-map and conveniently placed teleporters make it easy to quickly get back on track.
- Dreamlike upgrades: Push the limits of physics and imagination during the journey to the core with fundamental changes to the game mechanics

- Carefully crafted controls and haptics: Each action is positioned on the controllers to allow effortless simultaneous usage of all movement and tool capabilities, inducing a flow state of control. Player collisions, damage, climbing, tool usage, and more are fed into haptics for a complete loop of sensory I/O.
