What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access gives us the opportunity to develop Splashback alongside the players who are most interested in the game from the beginning.

Because handling, course design, difficulty, AI behavior, and overall game feel are such important parts of a racing game, player feedback can be especially valuable while those systems are still being refined.

We also want to be transparent about the fact that Splashback is still early in development. Early Access allows players who are excited about the concept to experience the game sooner, provide feedback, report issues, and help influence priorities as development continues.

Our goal is to use Early Access to improve the core experience, learn what resonates most with players, and steadily build Splashback into a more complete and polished racing game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Splashback to remain in Early Access for 1-2 years while we continue refining the core experience, expanding the game's content, and responding to player feedback. Rather than committing to a specific release date, our focus is on making sure the game reaches the level of quality and content we want before moving toward a full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“During Early Access, we plan to continue expanding Splashback with additional content, features, and improvements across the game.

Our current plans include expanding the selection of courses and environments, adding more customization and progression options, improving presentation and polish, refining handling and watercraft physics, and continuing to improve the overall racing experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Splashback is currently in an early stage of development, but the core racing experience is playable.

The Early Access version currently includes four races, AI-controlled opponents, core watercraft handling and racing systems, and the foundation of the game's presentation and progression experience.

Players should expect the game to continue evolving throughout Early Access, with further balancing, polish, optimization, content, and feature development planned over time. Some areas may still feel unfinished or change significantly as development progresses.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. We currently plan to offer Splashback at a lower price during Early Access. As the game receives additional content, features, and polish, we expect the price to increase, with the full release planned to be priced higher than the Early Access version.

Players who purchase Splashback during Early Access will retain access to the game as development continues.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will be an important part of Splashback's development during Early Access.

We plan to actively listen to player feedback regarding handling, difficulty, course design, progression, performance, bugs, and requested features. Feedback from Steam discussions, reviews, and other community channels will help us identify problems, prioritize improvements, and better understand what players want to see from the game.

Early Access also gives us the opportunity to experiment with new ideas while working directly with the people playing the game. Our goal is to build Splashback alongside its community while still maintaining a clear overall vision for the game.”

About This Game

Splashback is a fast-paced arcade watercraft racing game built around speed, responsive handling, big waves, and close competition.

Hit the water, fight for position against AI racers, and learn each course as you chase faster lines and cleaner runs.

Easy to pick up. Built to be mastered.

Every turn is an opportunity.

Learn how your watercraft responds, carry speed through corners, and find the line that gets you to the finish first.

Splashback is designed around responsive arcade handling while still rewarding players who take the time to master each course.

Push harder. Ride cleaner. Get faster.

Take on a field of AI-controlled racers fighting for the same piece of water.

Hold your line, capitalize on mistakes, and battle your way through the pack as every position counts.

The water is wide. The racing line isn't.

Features:

• Arcade-style watercraft racing
• AI-controlled opponents
• Multiple race courses
• Responsive watercraft handling
• Built around learning courses and improving your runs

Splashback takes inspiration from the fast, colorful water-racing games of the past while building its own modern identity.

From the spray coming off your watercraft to the rush of fighting through a pack of racers, the goal is simple:

Make every race feel fun.

No complicated simulation required.

Just grab your watercraft, hit the throttle, and make a splash.

Splashback is launching in Early Access so the game can grow alongside its players.

The current version includes four playable races, AI-controlled opponents, and the core watercraft racing experience.

Development is still early, and we plan to continue improving and expanding the game based on both our vision for Splashback and feedback from the community.

During Early Access, we plan to continue working on:

• Additional content
• Handling and physics improvements
• AI refinement
• Performance and optimization
• Presentation and visual polish
• Community-requested improvements where they fit the direction of the game

If you miss arcade watercraft racers — or you've never played one before — we'd love to have you along for the ride.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI was used for the bouy, and ramp models as well as a placeholder logo for Splashback, I plan on replacing these with professional art in the near future.
