What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Bonobros is a competitive game, and its balance is shaped together with its players. Every champion and every spell needs to be tested over a large number of matches to be tuned properly. Early Access lets us do this work with the community, update after update.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to stay in Early Access for about a year, depending on player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add:
- new champions;
- new cosmetics;
- new puzzles;
- new game modes.

Balance will keep evolving throughout Early Access, based on player feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is complete and playable: ranked duels with a draft, tournaments, puzzles, a tutorial for every champion, arena lessons and a puzzle editor, in 6 languages. It is still in beta: balance changes regularly and some bugs may remain.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game is free to play and will stay that way. Purchases are for cosmetics or for unlocking champions faster, never for gaining an advantage in a match.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Discord is our main place to talk with players: they report bugs, suggest ideas and discuss balance there, and we announce upcoming changes there first. Puzzles created by players can also be played directly in the game.”

About This Game

Bluffs, mind games and strokes of genius

Bonobros is a turn-based strategy game where both players plan their actions at the same time. What matters most here is reading your opponent: predicting their moves, guessing what they are protecting, and sometimes going for the risky play they never saw coming.

One turn, two beats

  • 45 seconds of planning: three actions, in secret. An action is a unit's move and/or ability.

  • The resolution: everything is revealed and plays out in a fixed order you know in advance. Moves, spells, duels, resurrections, energy.

Energy wins matches

Hold the energy tiles and pick up the orbs left by fallen units. Level up a champion at the right moment, or bring back the one you just lost. Spending well is often worth more than attacking well.

For competitive players

  • Ranked duels with an ELO ladder and rewarded seasons

  • Regular tournaments, played in the Colosseum in front of the crowd

For solo play

  • Kill the King: puzzles where the only goal is to kill the enemy king in as few turns as possible

  • A tutorial for every champion, plus the arena lessons

  • Puzzles made by the community

Free to play, never pay to win

You play, you earn gold and you unlock your champions, and a rotation is free to play every week. You can also buy a champion to get it right away. Real money never makes anyone stronger: everything else is cosmetic (skins, boats, viewos, emotes).

A game in beta, built with its players

Create your own puzzles with the editor and share them. And join the Discord: that is where we talk about balance and what is coming next.

Twelve champions, twelve ways to play

Assassin, marksman, tank, trapper, summoner, mage, support... Before each match there is a draft: five picks each, and you adapt your team to your opponent's. During the match, each champion levels up twice. When two units end up on the same tile, it is a duel: the highest score wins.

Fighter. The last survivor of the end of Inssagan, Narkuss came back from the future with what he had left: a jetpack to leap into the fray, and bananas that explode on his targets. Once he reaches his peak, nothing can stop him.

Marksman. A royal guard of Belcastel, Wakz is hunting down his king's assassin. His arrows fly so high that they come down much later, right where no one expects them. And when he bursts out laughing, his enemies go right back where they came from.

Summoner. Kyria grew up surrounded by animals in the countryside of Belcastel. Her cat roots the enemies that come close, her dog kills those who stay next to it, and when she unleashes her whole pack, not even a king is safe.

Support. Commander of Thalassa's army, Shark is known as "the Bulwark of the Sea". He is always where he is needed: he can take an ally's place in an instant, however far away, shields his own from magic and harvests twice as much energy as anyone else.

Mage. Hailing from the ice of Niflheim, Jeel made her own place in a clan of men. Her ice keeps growing around her, and any enemy who dares to come close ends up frozen.

Fighter. A young and adored hero of Takama-ga-hara, Sakor fights the way he dresses: with flair. His katana cuts the air in a lightning-fast cross, and any enemy who tries to run gets stuck in place by a slobbery kiss. But it is in Swag mode, wearing his finest outfit, that he becomes truly fearsome.

Fighter. Raised in the blood and sweat of the Colosseum, Joel is free now and serves no master. He pounces on his prey with a huge leap, marks them, then comes back to finish them: as long as he stands, those he has marked are doomed.

Support. Guardian of the Great Tree, Lye Gaia grows flowers that cleanse and shield her allies. But her oldest magic is also the most dangerous: she knows how to bring back the dead.

Tank. A colossus who guards the shores of Takama-ga-hara, Jiraya throws his chain and hook to drag in the first enemy within reach. Everything slows down around him: few ever get away.

Assassin. A mercenary from Belcastel, Tioo is the one who killed the king. He steals energy from enemies as soon as he touches them, grows stronger with every theft, and leaves a shadow clone behind to cover his tracks.

Miner. A pirate at heart, GoBGG stole Narkuss's technology and only managed to turn it into an overpowered, unstable musical instrument. It gives him a crazy amount of energy, until the day everything around him blows up.

Trapper. An artificer from the Underneath, a kingdom hidden beneath the sands, Huz disobeyed his people to go on an adventure. His bombs go off and leave marks behind: he slips from one to the next through his tunnels, then blows everything up again.
