What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We decided to launch in Early Access because, we want to give our players a chance to play our game before we finish adding all of the additional things we envisioned to include in the final version.
Additional time will also allow us to put more effort into implementation of new mechanics and it will give us an opportunity to add an On-Line Co-Op mode as well as some modding features that we would love our game to have. We want this game to live and grow long after the initial release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect that Early Access phase will take approximately two years. We hope that it is enough time to polish the game and make it a high quality sandbox. However the game in its current state already offers loads of functionalities and long playtime.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In the final version we want to add many functionalities which were unlocked during our Kickstarter Campaign, including an Online Co-Op mode. You can also visit our special Roadmap Website where you can find a detailed breakdown of our plans.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access release will feature a single-player Campaign mode with an introduction to the story as well as customizable FreePlay Sandbox mode where you can select your difficulty level, starting location, starting equipment, intensity of weather conditions and other parameters.

The continuation of the Campaign mode as well as an Online Co-Op mode will come to the game later in the form of updates.

We've decided to focus on polishing core functionalities first to make sure they are thoroughly tested and that the core gameplay and survival mechanics are well balanced.
Because of that decision, some of the features that were mentioned in the DevLogs might may be added after the initial release.

Available technology trees at early access launch: botany, electricity, materials, mechanics. The chemistry tech tree will be added later as an update. Some technologies in each tech trees are locked and will be added after early access launch.

Vehicles available to build in the game at early access launch: Old Quad, ATV Quad, Heavy Rover with 3 types of trailers.
The Motocross and MarsTruck still require some driving adjustments so they will be enabled later.

Available tools: Air compressor, Blowtorch, Grinder, Jackhammer, Seed Tool, Spectral Detector, Screwdriver, Detonator, Fire extinguisher, Remote controller, pipes, cables and various building materials.

Plants available to cultivate: Apple, Oxygen Tree, Poplar, Spruce, Pepper, Corn, Tomato, Potato, Lettuce, Cabbage, Pumpkin.

Buildings available to build in the game at early access launch: airlock, ramp, 2x flexible corridor joints, small solar panel, medium solar panel, transformer, transformer upgrade, battery, battery upgrade, lamp, 3x antennas, well, co2 scrubber, sabatier reactor, vertical tanks, horizontal tanks, pump, small rock crusher, big rock crusher / printer, greenhouse with hydroponics shelf, plant incubator, seed machine, composter, small dome, medium dome, large dome, workshop, living capsule, survival capsule, bathroom, various capsule adapters, lobby, cantina, main hab (hq) with equipment, food processing unit, small 3d printer, bed, fridge, 5x workbench types for different technologies, the garage (hangar), anti-meteor launcher, 9 types of corridors (long, short, with or without windows, 90 deg angle and crossroads.

Other available interactable objects include: The Ingenuity Helicopter drone, Radio, First Aid Kit, Helmet Repair Kit, spare helmets, Jetpack, solid fuel sounding rockets,

More objects, buildings and vehicles will be enabled in subsequent updates.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Although we are not currently sure about the final price of our game, most likely the early access version will cost less than the final product, in a similar way like other space sandbox games which were initially released in Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are creating this game with the community and for the community. Players are be able to express their ideas, opinions and suggestions for the game on the community forums, as well as our Discord server. A lot of community members have already influenced the game's direction during previous Beta periods and we intend to continue working closely with the community.”

Occupying Mars is not always easy. Sometimes things will explode, break or not go exactly as planned. Learn to cope with "Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly.” Sometimes you have to really act quickly before you run out of air, food, or energy.
