About This Game

A harbour, a ship, and the open sea

Plunder is a cooperative pirate game about sailing a ship with your crew. Make your pirate, break out of the gaol on Prisondreal, sign on at the voyage board, cross the gangplank and cast off. Every job aboard is one a pirate does: one at the wheel, one heaving at the capstan, one on the pumps, one on the guns. Short-handed? Hired hands fill every empty berth and pitch in, so you can sail alone or with up to three friends. Add friends through Steam and join their crew, or invite them to yours.

Work your ship

  • Sloop, brig or galleon, any of them free to take out of the haven. Set canvas a level at a time, let go the anchor, and race the harbourmaster's regatta for a record.
  • Keep her afloat. Shot through the hull? Get below and nail a patch over the leak, man the pumps, mend her timbers. A holed ship still sails, until she fills.
  • Load the guns by hand. Fill your shot pouch at the rack, ram the ball home, run the gun out and fire. Ripple a broadside down her side.
  • Grapple and board. Hook a ship alongside, swing across on a rope, beat her crew and sail her home as your prize.
  • Climb the rigging, scrub the deck on your knees, and strike up a shanty at the capstan: every voice makes the work go faster.

Fight on deck and ashore

  • Cutlass combat with weight: combos, heavy thrusts, parries, rolls and finishers.
  • Five arms: pistol, double pistol, blunderbuss, musket, and the cutlass at your hip.
  • The Scourge, a bone fleet of the drowned, raids the islands, boards your ship and lays siege to the haven itself. The deeper you go into the tale, the darker the seas become.
  • Camps and bosses ashore: storm the Boneyard, Captain Bull's stockade and the Pyre Keeper's island.
  • Privateers lay their broadside on you, and grapple you if you let them close.

A sea worth crossing

  • Close to fifty islands, from palm keys and plank towns to skull forts and sealed vaults.
  • A kraken that fights back: cut its arms, shoot it in the eye, or sail clear while you still can.
  • Sea serpents, sirens' reefs and whirlpools, storms with lightning over the masts, fog banks and sharks.
  • Dive sunken wrecks for their chests, rescue castaways (unless it's a trap) and hunt treasure convoys.
  • Bottles adrift with treasure maps in them, X marked on your chart. Row ashore and dig.
  • Day turns to night: lanterns glow along the quays and the sea shimmers with sea-light.

Live off the islands

  • Fell trees and break rocks for timber, ore and the odd gem, and salvage whatever a sinking ship leaves behind.
  • Cook at the galley stove or over a campfire, and work your materials at the forge.
  • Fishing with a real fight: cast, strike, reel, and hold the rod over against the run. Hunt the legendary fish.
  • Bury your own treasure on a beach. Only you can dig it up.

A pirate's life in port

  • Sixty quests from voiced quest-givers, with cutscenes at the story's great moments.
  • Pick a side, Buccaneers or Sea Dogs, and rise from Swab to Commodore.
  • The Drowned Rat: grog and rum (and what they do to your legs), fists-only brawls, and a flute to play for tips.
  • Liar's Dice, Twenty-One and Dead Man's Hold'em at the gaming tables, for in-game coin.
  • Mind the watch. Lift goods from a stall in a guard's sight and it's the gaol, unless you pay, bribe or run.
  • The barber, outfitter, gunsmith and sailmaker: dress your pirate, finish your guns and dress your ship in your colours. Perch a parrot on your shoulder or sign on a ship's dog.
  • Emotes, a photo mode, and over 500 achievements to earn.

Equal shares

Everything the crew sells is split equally among the crew, whether you were at the wheel or down in the bilge. Your share goes into your bank, safe ashore; what's still in the hold is plunder, and it goes down with the ship.
