What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I’ve spent 8 years solo-developing Cornucopia®. Inspired by Harvest Moon 64 and my real-life years homesteading in rural Canada. From breeding chickens to hand-coding in a custom C++ engine, this game is my life's work. Built from love, grit, and soil.

I used to daydream in school about features that didn’t exist yet. Like using kitchen utensils to cook or breeding chickens for unique genetics. Years later, I spent three years homesteading in rural Canada. Hatching and raising chickens and ducks, breeding goats and pigs (the male pig was a real menace and escape artist. It was basically a free-roaming pig). The piglets were adorable, but eventually I had to sell them, which broke my heart. I harvested honey from my bee colonies to sell at the farmers market (not without some competitor drama), and cared for my Jersey cow, Lotka. I even tried growing vegetables, though the poor soil made it a real challenge. I was vegan at the time. So running a homestead was a complex and often ironic experience. That chapter directly inspired Cornucopia’s in-depth soil system.

My two dogs were always by my side: one still is. Munger, my 12-year-old English Bulldog, lives in the game too. The other, a Great Pyrenees livestock guardian, inspired the player character’s name. Rufus (who now lives with my mom). Many of the game’s characters and cutscenes are based on real people and memories from my life. Roger the Lumberjack, for example, was inspired by a character my dad used to play. He’d dress up in a goofy hat and fake teeth to troll my sisters’ friends, strangers, and family. My dad passed away when I was 13, and I’ve dedicated this game to him in the credits.

Cornucopia originally began in my own custom C++ engine while I was homesteading. I did the art, design, and programming myself, using a basic graphics library to prototype the core systems. It was playable. And interesting. But ultimately not good enough. Still, it was a massive learning experience that taught me programming, design, and the limits of trying to do everything from scratch.

Everything changed when I went into town for a game jam and discovered Unity. I switched engines, shifted from 2D to a 2.5D style, and began remaking the game with a whole new level of polish and potential.

In 2020, I founded Subconscious Games Inc. and officially transferred the rights to Cornucopia under the company. I still own 100% of the studio and remain the solo developer behind the game, working with talented independent contractors from around the world. Mainly for art, music, and sound design.

After seven years of building the game in Vancouver, I’m now back in my hometown and ready to plant my garden again. And more excited than ever to keep bringing Cornucopia to life.

This game is my life’s vision. I take it seriously. I show up for it every day (when I’m not overwhelmed or burnt out), and I’m committed to improving it no matter how long it takes. I’m not here to chase quick money. I want to create something I truly love. Let me invite you into that process. And let's build something lasting, together.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“There’s no hard deadline. I want to move at the pace that makes sense for the game and the community.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Cornucopia® will leave Early Access when the community and I both feel it’s truly ready.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Cornucopia® is stable, fun, and already packed with features. It’s Steam Deck Verified and fully playable with a controller or keyboard and mouse. I release new content and improvements monthly, guided by player feedback. For the full rundown, check the About This Game section.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We may gradually increase the price as the game expands. Or we may keep it the same. It’ll depend on how the content and scope evolve over time.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The Cornucopia® community is the heartbeat of development. I’m active daily in the Discord, reading every message, running polls, and chatting with players. I also keep up with Steam forums and expo feedback. Your ideas and support literally shape the game.

If you love the game, leaving a review on Steam helps more than you know. It not only supports visibility. It also lifts my spirits and helps guide future updates. Every word means something to me. Thank you and God Bless!”

Farm, build, romance, raise magical animals, and fight through the dungeons below, all in one warm, handmade world. Who you marry and how you mix your soil both change how your story goes.

The mystery: Thawed after a century, you wake among curious villagers. A camera-loving conspiracy theorist shadows your every step. Deep below, lost relics and gemstone fruits are waiting.

  • Romance 34+ characters: date, marry, and start a family.

  • Living soil: feed your land and grow legendary crops. Easy to plant, deep to master.

  • Magical animals: hatch, breed, and pass rare traits down the generations.

  • No bedtime: play all night, set your own speed, never pass out.

Play At Your Own Speed

Cornucopia is built to be low-pressure. You decide how it plays:

  • No bedtime pressure: stay up as long as you want. No forced sleep, no pass-outs.

  • Your camera, your call: adjust tilt, zoom, and FOV. Flatten it into a paper storybook, or angle it like a classic top-down farm.

  • Overflow inventory: extra items slip straight into storage. No more full-bag frustration.

  • Tools level by use: your watering can and axe get stronger just from using them.

  • Adjustable game speed: slow it down to soak it in, or speed it up to get more done.

  • 97 achievements and 5 badges: earn them at your own pace, or ignore them and just wander.

  • Frequent updates and polls: an active community helps decide what gets built next.

Breed Animals With Real Genetics

From tiny chicks to hardworking cows, every animal levels up and gets stronger. Chop trees with a horse, race a wild chicken, or bond with a slime. Breed pets across generations for rare colors and patterns. Why settle for an ordinary cow when you can raise a midnight-blue one?

Build the Farm You Want

Upgrade your house, barn, coop, and shed, expand your soil, and repair the greenhouse for big bonuses. Build new spots like the Hot Springs, or move into the Beach Villa, the Treehouse, or the Mountain Lodge. Interiors are yours to decorate, and 90+ hats add stat boosts or just look good.

50+ Villagers With Lives of Their Own

Build bonds through gifts and chats, and redecorate their rooms once you're close. Villagers gossip, go on dates, and grow their own friendships whether you're watching or not. Some of them will fall for you.

74 Crops, 50 Trees, 15 Berry Bushes, and Living Soil

Your soil is alive. Balance nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium with compost to lift growth, yield, and rare seasonal boosts. Chase legendary crops like wasabi and greenhouse watermelon hybrids, or take it slow and let nature do its thing. Season, soil, and compost all shape the harvest. Simple to plant, deep enough to obsess over.

Marry, Then Raise a Magical Kid

Marry one of 34+ eligible characters, from spirited youths to wise elders, and raise a child who grows from baby to toddler to kid. Your partner decides what they become: wizard kids, kappa offspring, spirit children, goddess babies, and more.

Fishing and a 10-Game Arcade

Hook quirky catches with a bounce-style fishing system, then hit the Arcade for 10+ mini-games: coin-pushers, claw machines, shooters, and pet races. There's always something small to do between harvests.

Collect Cards for Permanent Buffs

Cards give you buffs like Double Jump, Underwater Breathing, and Auto-Revive. Finish monster quests and neighbor tasks for rewards, and dig up economic perks like Shop Discounts, Faster Refining, or More Rare Fish. New cards turn up each run.

Every Save Rolls Differently

  • Random birthdays and gifts: each save shuffles favorite items and celebrations.

  • Animals with personality: pets arrive with likes, dislikes, and hidden abilities you can breed forward.

  • Unique gear: every weapon and hat rolls its own stats.

  • Procedural dungeons: rare enemies, secret bosses, and treasure rooms in new places each time.

A 2.5D World You Can Tilt and Zoom

Zoom in on the tiny farming details, or pull back to plan the next expansion. Mix crops, orchard trees, berry bushes, and paths into a layout that's yours. Multiple regions, four seasons, and 72 original tracks that shift with the weather and the time of day.

Fast Travel and a Map That Shows Everyone

Discover waypoints and zip around town in a tap. The map shows where every villager is right now, so delivering a gift or making a festival is never guesswork.

Dungeons, 11+ Weapon Types, and Bosses

Take on the caves with 11+ weapon types and gear that rolls its own stats. Explore gently at your own pace, or push deeper for rare loot, unique rooms, and boss fights.

Festivals Every Season

From the Chicken Festival to Fireworks Night on the mountaintop, every seasonal event has its own gameplay and music. Enter contests, bid on rare animals and decorations at the Auction House, and bond with villagers along the way.

200+ Recipes and a Cooking Festival
