What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are releasing Mortal Rite in Early Access to signify that this game is still being improved and expanded! While Early Access will have the feel of a fun game with a vast immersive experience, we plan on continually adding more content through free updates as we progress towards our full game release! We also want to take this time in Early Access to really listen to our community and implement their feedback so we can make the best game possible!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We estimate that Mortal Rite will be in Early Access for 1 to 2 years. It's hard to give an exact timeline though as the scope of the full-game might change slightly.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Mortal Rite will have more characters, enemies, bosses, levels, items, and lore! We also will be adding other game modes like PvP, and adding more character customization! We also plan to have improved optimization in the full version!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The first version of Early Access of Mortal Rite will have a complete game loop with 3 playable characters (each with their own unique moves, special abilities, and play styles). We will also have at least 13 different enemies and 2 boss fights! Included in this version will be a built out item system and upgrade path tree. Singleplayer and up-to 5 player co-op will also be fully ready!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Most likely yes, we aren't 100% sure about pricing at the moment though. Everyone who purchases Early Access will have access to the full version though once it is released, even if the price is increased.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“There will be a detailed survey provided for all those who download Early Access so we can best understand the changes our community is looking for! For now though we would love to hear your feedback in our Discord Server! You can join here:

About This Game

The core of Mortal Rite is a fast, action-based melee combat system that allows players to trade blows with enemies and rewards strategy over button-mashing.
Players choose from a variety of characters to embody, each with their own lore, fighting style, and abilities. Overcome enemies by using different skills, strategies, cooperation, collecting and crafting items to stop the encroachment of the king.

Players can progress through Mortal Rite in single player or with their friends or other random players in our (up to) 5 player co-op mode. You'll be able to switch between partying up or playing alone in between levels.

Every playable character in Mortal Rite is distinctive and considered in their own class. Playing through Mortal Rite with different characters will require the player to face a new challenge and employ a new strategy.

Souls-Like x Roguelite
Mortal Rite combines the difficult yet rewarding combat of a Souls-like game with the crazy items, quick character class switching, and procedural generation of a Roguelite game. What this means is that when you load into a level the first time, the items you get, the enemies you face (in number, type, and layout), the weather, and the physical path you take through the level, will be random. However, hitting retry once you have died will keep everything in that level the same as it was before, so you can go back through until you master that layout and beat the level, typical of a Souls-like game. Once you go back to the lobby to change your character, going back into that previous level will randomize it again, giving you a different experience, especially if you choose to play it again with friends or randoms in a different party size!

Progression through Mortal Rite is done in 2 ways. The first is by playing through and beating all the levels, and the second is by upgrading all your characters. High level characters can be used to join your friends' worlds to help them beat levels they are struggling with, or to just have a fun time trying out different strategies! Once Mortal Rite has launched, we will also continue with free updates to our player base with new characters and levels to play through!
