What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“My development choice has been to make a simple but functional chess game interface. I am taking the Early Access way in order to receive feedback from users on what features should be provided first, and most importantly how they should be.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I am expecting to develop the multiplayer in 3 to 6 months and another 3 to 6 months for the database, so 1 year seems to be an achievable goal to me.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“My main goal is to design a functional multiplayer mode. I also want to add better graphics, sounds and to improve the 2D mode. Finally I plan to include some database features such as searching games by position.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The user can play chess and review their games for analysis.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I am planning to raise the price at the end of early access. However if the feedback is negative I could decide to lower it.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I am expecting the community to decide how should be the multiplayer and the database features, there are many ways to do this and user feedback is very important here.”

About This Game

Caîssa Board is a 2D and 3D chess interface that aims toward simplicity. With it, you can play at home with your friends, against a chess engine (UCI or CECP) or on lichess.org. There is also a multiplayer mode where you can pick a character and go play chess with your friends in a virtual chess club located in a Greece themed island.

Ten chess variants are supported: Standard chess, chess 960, antichess, atomic, crazyhouse, horde, infiltration, king of the hill, racing kings and three checks.

Caïssa Board can help you with your chess studies, its database module can import thousands of games (PGN format) and can tell you which games match a given position.

You can analyze your games with several chess engines and be given hints about tactics.

You can also comment your games, add NAGs (numerical annotation glyphs) very easily and even publish them with the LaTex export functionality.

The first graphical user interfaces for chess have appeared in the 1990s. Since then, they have considerably evolved but are still very complicated. Caïssa Board has been to designed to be a modern Chess GUI that is capable of interfacing with many chess engines while being tuned toward simplicity of use, and has become much more than that now.

While still in Early Access, the core functionalities are nearly completed now.
