What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to make the best game we can and to achieve this, the feedback from our community is invaluable. We want to work with our community to strengthen the areas where the game shines and improve on the things that are not so good. We enjoy working with the players who play our game because we ultimately do this for them.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“No definitive plans but we think for at least a few months, probably longer. We will only release the game when both the community and we ourselves are happy with it.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We want to expand the content of the game. For example, we want to explore more levels or different styles of levels. We also want to look into improving the in-game programming experience and experiment with new nodes.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“In the current Early Access version, we have implemented most of the planned core features including:
  • The first version of our visual in-game programming where players can design the behavior of their robots in an intuitive way
  • A short puzzle campaign with five levels
  • A first implementation of the tutorial and onboarding
  • Robot customization and upgradability in the warehouse where players can improve their robots and prepare them for assignments
  • Unlocking of multiple new attachments for the robots in the research lab
  • Leaderboards, where players can see how they compare to the rest

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No definitive plans here. But it is likely that we don't change the price when the game leaves early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We mainly use our Discord server and the Steam forums as a means of exchange with our community. We are very thankful for any feedback from our players like bug reports, feature suggestions, or general feedback on the current game experience. We really want to make the best game we can and for this, we are thankful for any help.”

About This Game

Assignment 42 is a strategic, puzzle-based experience set in a maze of superstructure interiors. Progress by programming a robot to handle fried electrics and fires while you, with the guidance of your partner operator, evacuate every civilian and investigate who is behind the disaster.

Use your robot to contain hazards and clear a path to various objectives. Each level poses a set of challenging puzzles for you to solve. Use your creativity to find new ways and guide your robot to its destination.

Reroute circuits and secure a path to any remaining survivors and help them exit the danger zone safely.

Program your robot to help you achieve your goals. Use a powerful node-based program editor to give your robot the brains to help you complete your assignments. Even if you have never programmed before you will pick up the basic concepts easily.

Each level poses a new set of interesting challenges and puzzles. Work together with your robot to solve even the trickiest conundrums.

Explore and pull back the plaster-board walls. The voice in your earpiece - Linnea - notices there’s something… off. Something extra behind the emergency, behind the thin interior walls and the servers. Something which might suggest this assignment... was no accident.

You are Marcus, and as you control him and his buddying robot, it’s your objective to clear the buildings and get everybody out. And fast! Preferably at least.
Strategize, check your map, and listen to your witty base operator – Linnea. Connect the nodes and program your pretty, mustard-coloured machine to extinguish the most inconvenient fires, reroute power, unlock doors and tear down walls all the while you round up anyone who is trapped and hastily guide their behinds out the exit.

Explore the innards of not one, but three of 2042 Stockholm’s most impressive superstructures in this little serious, lots hilarious, self-aware near-ish future.
London, Singapore, New York – when all eyes and all bets were on those bigger cities, Stockholm rose. And now… it’s beginning to fall.
