Why Early Access?

“MakerKing is a sandbox platformer, there will always be new unique items to add and ideas that will come up. With Early Access and player feedback, we will be able to provide the best items to create a rich maker experience. The game also needs a lot more polish before we consider it done. Our game is community focused and Early Access is the best opportunity to continue its development alongside players.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're a 2 man operation, not a AAA studio. The game may remain in early access for an indefinite amount of time as we continually improve the game. Minor updates and bug fixes won't stop after we leave Early Access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“This game already has many functioning mechanics but it lacks a bit of polish and crucial gameplay elements. The final game would have much more interactive powerups, an integrated music composing system, more inner-editors like the Mob maker and a much more polished look and feel. The gameplay should be fun for everyone, not just hardcore kaizo players so we will add diversity to the in-game objects. You should expect the Early Access version to be frustrating at times, because making a level editor is a lot of user experience work. The final version should be smooth as butter.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable and fully multiplayer. You can create levels and upload them without problem. There is a level browser but the functionality is limited. The UI of the game is functional but needs work. The gameplay can be fun, especially for fans of advanced platforming techniques, but it needs more variety.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, we intend to keep MakerKing free to play on PC. It's important for us to be accessible to everyone. We will make money from people who enjoy and want to support the game by purchases of in-game cosmetics that do not affect the gameplay.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Suggestions and feedback have always been very valuable for the development of MakerKing. Often times the levels made by the community lets us discover new ways the game can be played which we can then develop further.”
