Leaving Early Access: 2028

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Alien Dawn is being developed as a long-term, player-driven project, and Early Access gives us the opportunity to build it alongside the community.

The game has reached a point where the core experience—exploration, survival, combat, physics, vehicles, and multiplayer—is playable and ready for players to experience. However, there is still a lot more we want to add, improve, and refine.

Early Access allows us to gather feedback from real players, identify what works and what doesn't, and use that feedback to help guide development. It also gives us the opportunity to continue improving performance, polish, gameplay systems, and content while the game evolves toward its full vision.

This is an actively developed project, and your feedback and support during Early Access will directly help shape where Alien Dawn goes next.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Alien Dawn to remain in Early Access for approximately 1–2 years. This timeline may change depending on player feedback, development priorities, and the amount of additional content and polish we ultimately decide to include.

Our priority is to make sure the game is ready for its full release rather than rushing toward a specific date.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our primary game mode is an open-world, procedurally generated mission, so each playthrough can be different. As we move through Early Access, we plan to add new types of content, items, locations, and enemies to make the experience more varied and unique with each playthrough.

We also have many ideas for additional game modes, including helicopter and vehicle-specific missions, as well as alternative versions of the Escape game mode. The current experience is designed with co-op as a major focus, but we have also envisioned a potential PvP mode where multiple squads compete against each other while trying to Escape.

Beyond the core mission-based experience, we are interested in exploring a persistent open-world mode where players could establish a base and progressively unlock more of the world. This could include finding special items or objectives that provide access to previously inaccessible areas, such as abandoned underground military facilities, and locations where players can discover and potentially engage with crashed or landed alien ships. A persistent open-world mode would likely be something we explore after the initial full release rather than part of the core Early Access scope.

Finally, we plan to continue expanding the ways players can customize and experience the game, including additional accessibility and control options.

The exact scope of these additions may evolve based on development and player feedback. Our goal is to continue expanding the world, gameplay possibilities, and replayability of Alien Dawn while maintaining the systems and interactions that make the core experience unique.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version is a fully playable experience built around the core gameplay systems of Alien Dawn. Players can explore a large open world, complete procedurally generated missions, scavenge for equipment and resources, fight alien enemies, interact with and manipulate physics-based objects, drive vehicles, and play cooperatively with other players.

The current version represents a substantial portion of the game's core technology and gameplay direction, but it is still an evolving project. Some systems, content, locations, enemies, missions, and gameplay features are still being developed or refined.

We have focused heavily on building a strong technical foundation, including physics-based interactions, multiplayer, VR interaction, and support for playing together across VR and Desktop. The game is also being actively optimized as development continues.

Players should expect bugs, balance changes, unfinished or experimental features, and areas of the game that may change significantly during Early Access. We are using this period to gather feedback, improve the existing experience, and determine which features and ideas provide the most value to players as Alien Dawn continues to grow.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. We currently plan for the price of Alien Dawn to increase as development progresses and the game moves closer to its full release.

Early Access players will be able to purchase the game at a lower price while it is still in active development. As additional content, features, polish, and gameplay systems are added, we expect the price to reflect the increasing scope and value of the game.

Any future price changes will be communicated ahead of time whenever possible.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will be an important part of the development of Alien Dawn throughout Early Access. As a small independent development team, we have the ability to listen closely to players and make changes based on their experiences.

We plan to use player feedback, bug reports, playtesting, community discussions, and gameplay data to help identify problems, prioritize improvements, and evaluate new ideas. We are particularly interested in hearing from players about the feel of the VR interactions, combat, movement, multiplayer, performance, accessibility, and overall game experience.

We also plan to continue providing regular updates and patch notes so players can see what is changing and why. When appropriate, we may provide experimental features or builds to the community to help us test ideas before they become part of the main experience.

Not every suggestion will necessarily make it into the game, but we want players to feel that their feedback is being heard and considered. Alien Dawn is a game we are building with its community, and Early Access gives us the opportunity to make the game better together.”
