Reviews

“In short, GRUNND is different and that's not why it's bad, just the opposite. It is a really atypical graphic adventure, but fantastic in all its sections. A game in which art blends with each of the scenes, achieving a truly unusual beauty.”
Analizando Mac

“GRUNND is a point-and-click adventure that doesn’t overstay its welcome, offering a rather surreal and somber experience as you make your way around the island and the town, talking to various strange characters and solving puzzles, all done in hopes of getting a place to stay for the night and finding a way to escape this weird location. The story remains cryptic throughout the game, leaving you with plenty of room to speculate and essentially fill in the gaps based on what you’ve learned about the place and the people in it. Yes, the game still has some issues as pointed out above which would likely be fixed in subsequent patches, but if you’re in the market for a point-and-click game with a bizarre and slightly Kafkaesque theme, GRUNND is one game you’ll want to play!”

“You might want to be in the right mood to play GRUNND. Not because it’s depressing per se, but because the tone consumes you immediately with the oh-so-slightly melancholy musical score, fancy hand-drawn visuals, and the dulcet tones of the narrator.”

About This Game

In this beautifully crafted, fully voice-acted mystery story, you find yourself fighting to stay awake on your evening train ride home from work until sleep finally takes you… Uh oh! You’ve missed your stop.

In a panic, you jump off at the next station and attempt to get your bearings. Unfortunately, getting a grasp on exactly where you’ve ended up turns out to be more difficult than you’d thought.

The people you encounter in the nearby town are strange, and while they fancy themselves helpful in their own ways, they aren’t always helpful in the ways that would see you quickly on your journey back home. The air here is thick and strange, and just beyond the reach of your senses something ethereal and omnipotent observes your every move from the sky…

GRUNND is a unique take on interactive mystery adventures with platformer-inspired locales, fast travel, and branching multiple-choice events that the player will begin to unfold from the very beginning of their journey.

GRUNND is more interested in making you think through the complex story beats it presents than through overly convoluted puzzles. You’ll encounter challenges to solve and overcome, of course, but these will be tied into the interactions you have with the various characters you meet along the way. The rich story of GRUNND concerns itself with you as a protagonist, but equally it shines a spotlight on the world around you and the stories of its sometimes-bizarre inhabitants.

The gameworld of GRUNND is inspired by the works of Franz Kafka and David Lynch, with its unique style sprinkling in droplets of Southern Gothic and Black Metal as well.

Keep your wits about you, and unravel the secrets of GRUNND today!

As one reviewer over at Voxel Smash not so long ago said..

"...
...It shows an understanding of how to construct a cryptic narrative while also giving vague hints to the actual background of the main character, without judgements or moral constructs. It feels free of other games’ need to respect the “classic” adventure design, and it tries to aim for a different experience. In that, it earns my respect.
If you’ve played your fair share of contemporary adventure games, GRUNND is a breath of fresh air in a genre often crowded by stories that don’t seem to have much to say or are content to just imitate past attempts. The audio design in the game is also well done. With some sparse atmospheric gloomy music and sound effects, this is definitely one you might want to play with your headphones on at night for the full experience..."
