Why Early Access?

“Early Access is a fantastic way to get the game into the hands of those who will enjoy it most and give us the critical feedback that we need to see the game all the way through.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“At time of this writing we expect the game to be finished sometime between Q2 and Q3 2022. Of course there are sometimes unforeseen delays and so the game will be in Early Access for as long as necessary but we are pretty confident in our estimate of how much work there is left to do. We wouldn’t feel comfortable calling the game at 1.0 until the full campaign is in place and stable from beta testing. As of this writing the game is in Alpha. This means that the main game loop is running, but features are still being added. Since the game’s scope may increase from the feedback it is possible the full release date may be pushed back to accommodate the desires of our community.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We want to expand the game so much further to allow players to set up bases on Earth's moon and then on Jupiter and Saturn's moons all the way out to Pluto. We intend to add in a main campaign scenario that gives the game a more definitive and satisfying ending as well as smaller scenarios which occur over time as the player explores the solar system. We also want to add way more ships to the game to keep the variety interesting. There will be systems for salvaging and stealing technology, as well as interactions with the other Warmasters to change their view of you. There will be optimizations as well as visual fidelity improvements. We want to add a formation and even city builder to allow movements of fleets in specific formations, or ordering the Mayor AI to build a city a specific way. We also want to integrate the game into Steam’s workshop so that the community can create their own content for the game easily. There is of course of lot of other creature comforts and smaller features that are already being implemented that it isn’t practical to list them here.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At launch the player is limited to starting on Mars and cannot yet leave the planet during play. The player can build a city, research technologies and items, gather resources, custom build a ship/fleet, order said fleet to attack other ships or cities. The AI can do all these things too. The player can fly any ship they produce first person and order their fleet to fly beside them and attack what they wish. This works in single and multiplayer, Co-op, PvP, and PvE at the same time because of the ability of each player to play different roles in their empire, or other players to be their own empire with friends. There are three tutorials, labeled as Prologues, which cover first the flight simulator and RTS gameplay, and then the larger 4X-style empire management. These tutorials will familiarize the player with the many roles they can take on both in single and multiplayer. There are various screens needed to run your empire that are completed too, including the Navigation Screen, the Asset Screen, the Research Screen, the Factory Screen, and the Shipbuilder Screen. The Warmaster AI, Admiral AI, Mayor AI, Ship AI, and Turret AI are functional. The Storyteller AI that manages events is in early stages. Damage is done on a granular level, allowing satisfying disabling of ships as well as salvage. Players can instantly jump between ships in their fleets as ships are disabled, allowing them to stay in the fight during larger fleet engagements without worrying if their personal ship is lost.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There are currently no plans to alter the price of the game after Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We intend for the Community to have a major role in the development process to provide necessary feedback as each feature is released through comments on our Discord server, the Steam Discussions, and the forums on our developer blog. We want to make a game that's really unique and fun for all fans of the Sci-fi genre and the best way to ensure that is with a constant dialogue with the Community that supports us.”

About This Game

Rank: Warmaster is a genre-defying blend of 4X, RTS, and Space Flight Simulator in which you must explore and conquer the solar system in order to build a new empire and bring peace to humanity. When the Central Earth Government ran up too many debts with the megacorporations, drastic actions were taken to collect. Earth's own defense grid has been turned against it and all Earthbound citizens have been taken hostage. Nobody enters and nobody leaves. 

You take on the role of a corporate settler who has just been stranded on Mars. Trapped in an underground shelter your only assets are a Builder Bot, a handful of construction resources, and an instructional contingency AI named Ares. From these lowly origins you build first a city and then a fleet of remote controlled warships to secure your territory all the while knowing that you aren't the only one out here. Every other major corporation launched its own settlers to escape the devastation and soon you'll find that there's just not enough solar system to go around.

A One of a Kind Experience:

Rank: Warmaster combines the best parts of the 4X, RTS, and Space Flight genres bringing a new depth to all three. Build your cities in real time and raise up fleets to defend them. First plot your conquest across Mars, and then the rest of the solar system. Order your fleets into engagements with enemy forces and when the battle needs a personal touch freely drop in and take direct, first person control of any of your ships. When the ship you control is destroyed, instantly jump into any other ship you control on or off the battlefield with no respawn timer.

Unique Granular Damage System:

Every part of every ship is individually damaged and destroyed. Penetrate the hull to damage the critical systems held within. Enough damage will see a ship fully perforated, allowing weapons fire to pass through one ship and into another. With careful shots enemy ships can be left disabled rather than destroyed, the better to salvage them and reverse engineer their technology.

Customize Your Ships Using a Vast Web of Technologies:

There are many tools at your disposal, victory will rely on picking the right ones. Research new weapons and components and then use the ship builder for full customization of your ships including armor thickness, shield strength, and even weapon and component placement. With no set mounting points or number of components the only placement limit is the ship's available internal space. Design the perfect ship manually or with assistance from the auto-build functions. Focus on the technologies that suit your strategy, but beware that your enemy can display just as much variety as you. You will be forced to adapt your designs or be left in the dust.

Customize Your Corporation:

Create your own corporation with unique qualities to suit your preferred play style. Is your shield technology miles ahead of the competition? Perhaps your ships are optimized to allow more components to fit in the same amount of space. Maybe nobody knows explosives quite like you. The bonuses and penalties you select before the game even starts will be with you for your entire campaign, irrevocably changing the course of your destiny.

Command as you Will:

A suite of AI helpers allow you to focus on the aspects of the game you love the most and leave the management of everything else to the AI. Whether you want to focus on developing your cities and technology, strategically commanding your conquering fleets, or if you just want to be the best pilot in the solar system you have the freedom to play your way. If you prefer human management bring in friends and divide the responsibilities of empire management between you, the AI doesn't know the difference. For a more competitive experience players can form their own corporations and challenge each other for final dominion of the solar system.

Explore a Hostile Solar System Full of Surprises:

As you expand your sphere of influence an AI storyteller will present events and situations which bring new depth to your story of conquest. Some of these will be random while others will be placed at game start; waiting to be discovered. The solar system hides many secrets both mysterious and mundane. Carefully navigating the evolving narrative will yield potent rewards of technology and resources while the careless and unlucky will suffer brutal setbacks. Adapt to unforeseen circumstances as space itself becomes another opponent to be challenged and overcome. At the end of your journey face off against the forgotten colonists of Alpha Centauri who seek to reclaim their home system.
