What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We need feedback from you to make The Song of the Fae the best game it can possibly be. Mixing procedural generation, randomness and chess together is a delicate blend and we need help balancing, testing and shaping the future of the game.

SoTF is made two people part-time and sometimes it gets a little lonely, if this seems like your sort of game we'd love to hear from you!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“12-24 months, we're already ~3 years into development

SoTF could probably continue to evolve indefinitely past our current 1.0 target, I'm not yet sure when we'll call it "done".”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We intend to add additional maps, map generation rules, biomes, enemies, bosses, challenge rooms, units, traits and secrets until the game feels "full". Ideally we want every SoTF run to look different and we'll be working towards that goal based on your feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Our milestone for launching into Early Access was to have the overall game loop in place, which we are now very happy with. Currently SoTF includes a tutorial and a core procedurally generated run, you'll battle through two biomes + bosses to face a final challenge. There are six friendly units to master and over a dozen enemy types to face.

This is a solid base to build from that we believe is fun already, but we can see huge potential in how to grow from here.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will launch at the lowest price (excluding future discounts / sales) and increase as we feel its value increases towards 1.0.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“SoTF is a complex game and development will only get more nuanced as we proceed. The community will be vital in helping us stay focused on the fun as well as delivering a high quality game.

Sometimes as roguelites grow they suffer from content bloat, frustrating RNG, repetitive runs and bugs; we've seen it before and would like any help we can to avoid these traps.

We welcome bug reports + feedback through the Steam Community, Discord and Twitter. Given the fact both members of the team work full-time jobs we may not always respond immediately but we really do read every message.

About This Game

Welcome to the Songlands

The Fae have watched over this world since time eternal, gently steering destiny along its tracks. To be honest though, there's not that much to do. Nothing of any Fae-level importance has happened in hundreds of years... Until now.

Introducing "The Bard":

An egomaniacal adventurer determined to leave their mark on history. Somehow The Bard has been invited to the annual WizardChess tournament, a contrived magical battle hosted by the Fae, for the Fae.

The game? A deckbuilding chess-like that's simple to pick up but near impossible to master.

And the prize? A boon from the FaeQueen herself.

Step into the shoes of The Bard, master WizardChess and scribble your name into every history book. The Song of The Fae is still yet to be written.

Key Features

  • Deeply Strategic: it's chess meets turn-based tactics, one move can (and will) change the entire game.
  • Build your Army: recruit, sacrifice, trade and gamble your units away to create the ultimate build.
  • Battle the Fae: use the power of board games to defeat the Fae in unique boss battles.
  • Massively Replayable: every run in SoTF is procedurally generated, down to the encounters, enemies, units, statistics and even the AI.

The game is still in development and we plan to continue adding content for some time. The quality ands cope of this build are not representative of final game. Regardless, we've got plenty to show you.

The Team

TwoPM consists of Ben Follington (@vivavolt) and Ricky James (@iamonshushu), both based in Queensland, Australia. We've been best friends for about 15 years and have been making games for almost as long. We both have jobs and can only work on games during nights and weekends so we like to build projects both patiently and strategically. Financial support of SoTF or any of our other work will allow us to dedicate more time to game development and deliver content faster.
