What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“ZOR explores some wild new ideas in the combination of cards, survival and tactics, so we want to have a period of community involvement before adding the full slate of content and meta progression. Things like balance, difficulty, quality of life will be a constant effort, but more importantly we want to get a clear understanding of what aspects of the game to invest in more, and which to adjust. (rather than make everything and find out we need to change half the game)
We want our early access period to be a demonstration of our integrity and passion as a developer. We plan to be focused and deliberate with each step, fully transparent, and make it fun to participate in.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game has been in early access for about 2 years now and has seen major content updates and reworks based on what we have learned. The 0.95 patch in October of 2024 is the last patch before 1.0 which will arrive in 2025.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“ZOR's early access has been polished, as bug free as possible. It currently is very close to the final game, minus some content and steam features.
At full release the game will have the final wave of content, and support steam features like achievements.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently the game has a tutorial, an introductory trial, and then the main mode which takes you through 3 legs made from a possible 6 regions. A region is a unique environment and leg of the journey with it's own enemies, bosses, and interactive objects.
The Astrolabe progression system offers many game changing perk effects to unlock through in game challenges. Also, there are currently 6 additional Slorf characters with unique traits you can unlock.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will not change between now and release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will be very active on steam and discord discussions, will continue dev diaries which will shift to prompting discussion around upcoming features, as well as listening via our other social channels.
We intend to do a rotating schedule of updates between tuning (QoL, bugs, polish, UX) and new content. The intent of this is to keep our work focused and maintain high quality throughout. Secondly it will help focus the feedback and discussion so we can get the most out of it.
How the community responds to the game, and what people care about most will drive development up to launch.”

About This Game

On a weird and ridiculously dangerous planet, a tribe of resourceful monsters called Slorfs, have witnessed a terrible omen. The star god ZOR has wept a tear, blasting the horizon with a haze of despair.

The Slorf tribe must explore further than ever before, growing their ranks and completing construction of the astrolabe, to regain ZOR’s favor before all of existence disappears!

  • A deep combination of card choice, coordinated actions, and tension between combat and survival

  • Every decision is life or death, from swinging a weapon to picking a turnip

  • Terrain, traps, enemy threats and auras make positional gameplay paramount

  • The tactical puzzles that emerge each turn reward mastery over metagaming

Use clever tactics to squeeze the most out of your turn

  • On each Slorf turn, use a card from a deck they share to decide their actions

  • There are 100s of cards with a variety of uses. Harvesting, attacking, movement, building, buffs and more

  • Cards cost food and water to use, so efficiency and planning is paramount

  • Use experience to upgrade cards to more powerful versions, and expand your deck through exploration and crafting

Improve and customize your deck with branching upgrades and crafted cards

  • Delve through a gauntlet of clearings filled with dangerous beasts and hostile terrain

  • During the battle, scavenge what you can. Thirst and hunger are stalking you

  • At camp, use your resources wisely, for they offer many possible choices

A tenuous balance between combat and survival, with shifting and emerging tactics

With procedural areas, strategic crafting choices, and many ways to build your deck from hundreds of cards, no two games will ever be the same!
