What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to use the Early Access version of the game in order to receive feedback from the players and with their help, shape the game to its best possible form. And since Halloweseed is the first game I am developing as a solo developer, community’s feedback will be highly valuable!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our current plan is to release the final version of the game around August 2021. We want to use this time to carefully listen to the players’ feedback and at the same time make sure that the game will be developed based on our initial plan, without any compromises that would have any potential to ruin the player’s experience. In case we believe that we might need a bit more time to finish the game, we will let everyone know through the News section - but it will not take years! We promise!”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We estimate that the full version will have around 6 hours of gameplay while the Early Access has about 1-2 hours. The game will have an exciting story, inventive puzzles, all accompanied by the persistent atmosphere of dread. You will be afraid.

There are also going to be several other additions and improvements:
  • Many in-game events / micro-scares will be added, changed or refined based on community’s feedback
  • In early access, the house is much smaller which consequently causes events to be reduced. In the full version, this house will be 3 times bigger and will give much more content to the player to interact
  • Secret levels will be added (won’t share much here to avoid spoilers!)
  • Underground Levels should be considered a special chapter of the game and will be redesigned from scratch
  • Achievements
  • Localization to different languages
  • New / improved sounds and audio
  • The AI will be significantly improved and is going to become much more terrifying!
  • The ending will be… well, you will see :) we are not going to share any spoilers here!
  • macOS and Linux support
  • Controller support

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version contains about 1-2 hours of gameplay and is an introduction to the story where the player investigates the first house and part of the cursed forest, facing the overwhelming horror of the place. The best puzzles are still in development and will be added in the full version.

The User Settings are Automatic - the game will auto detect your Desktop resolution and the best graphic settings, but it's yet not optimized for low end PCs.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price during Early access is reduced in order to give the early players a chance to contribute to the development. We plan to slightly increase the price during the first stage of the Early Access period. The full price of the game will be reached approximately a month before the end of the Early Access. We are going to notify everyone ahead of every price increase, through our Steam Discussion forum and our online communities so we will give the chance to the players who want to get the game while it’s still at a lower price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community will be involved in development by providing feedback and suggestions in the Steam Discussions as well as our Horror Story Discord server. We are constantly monitoring the comments and talking to the Community about new ideas and plans for the future updates.”

About This Game

Horror Story: Hallowseed is a single-player story-driven psychological horror game that takes place in the fictional location, Hallowseed. A place forgotten by time, wrapped in a mysterious demonic terror!

Three friends were camping in the woods, when an obscure event takes them away, causing two of them to disappear. Left alone in an unknown place, Michael seeks answers about what happened, while trying to find his friends.

Early Access
Horror Story: Hallowseed is currently in Early Access, which means that the game is still in active development. The current build provides around 90 mins of gameplay while the full version is planned to provide around 6 hours.

The full version will include several other additions and improvements:
  • Many in-game events / micro-scares will be added, changed or refined based on community’s feedback
  • In early access, the house is much smaller which consequently causes events to be reduced. In the full version, this house will be 3 times bigger and will give much more content to the player to interact
  • Secret levels will be added (won’t share much here to avoid spoilers!)
  • Underground Levels should be considered a special chapter of the game and will be redesigned from scratch
  • Achievements
  • Localization to different languages
  • New / improved sounds and audio
  • The AI will be significantly improved and become much more terrifying!
  • macOS and Linux support
  • Controller support
  • The ending will be… well, you will see :) we are not going to share any spoilers here!

Community feedback is encouraged and highly appreciated. We want to make a game that you will enjoy, is well polished, and will include all the content that we designed in our original development plan.

Horror Story: Hallowseed will have a dense story, several puzzles and will be really scary!

Key Features:
  • Story-rich - The player is driven by the story of a village that used to follow God’s way, but an obscure power seduced some of them and condemned them to the darkness. While seeking to save his friends, Michael will uncover what role he plays in all this tragedy.
  • Atmospheric - Immersive sounding and stunning visuals
  • Micro-scares system - a random system of… scary events that are activated based on how the player interacts with the environment and will make you jump from your chair (or couch)!
  • Inspired by Horror Movie Classics: Insidious, The Conjuring and The Exorcism of Emily Rose
  • Hallowseed is the first chapter in the Horror Story series by Jeff Winner

The developers describe the content like this:
