What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Afterdepth began as a personal project about isolation, survival, and persistence in a collapsing world.
The current version already includes the core gameplay loop — mining, technical progression, and oxygen management — but the underground world is still expanding.
Early Access allows players to experience this growth, sharing feedback and ideas about balance, pacing, and exploration.
We aim to build this world organically, together with the community.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Afterdepth to remain in Early Access for approximately 6 to 8 months.

This estimate reflects our current development scope and planned content expansions. As with any ongoing project, timelines may adjust depending on development progress and community feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is expected to expand and refine the systems currently available in Early Access.

While the core gameplay loop is already present, we are exploring deeper crafting possibilities, broader base-building mechanics, and additional environmental variety to enhance long-term progression.

Narrative elements are planned to evolve over time, gradually revealing more about the world and the Research Centers.

As development continues, we may also introduce additional quality-of-life improvements, optional challenge variations, and broader localization support.

Our intention is to grow the game into a richer and more cohesive exploration experience, shaped both by ongoing development and community feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access build provides a playable core experience focused on exploration and mining.

Players can dig, gather resources, manage oxygen, and interact with the foundational survival systems. The primary gameplay loop is present, but the overall scope is still limited, with a smaller set of explorable areas and progression systems compared to the intended full version.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We do not currently plan to increase the price after Early Access.

Our goal is to make the game accessible while it evolves. Any future pricing decisions will be evaluated carefully based on the scope and development progress, but there are no confirmed plans to raise the price at this time.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want the community to be part of Afterdepth's evolution from the very beginning. Players will be able to share feedback directly through Discord and the Steam Community, helping refine pacing, balance, and new progression ideas. Regular updates and development logs will keep everyone informed about progress and upcoming goals. You can view our planned features and current development status on our website.”

About This Game

The surface is gone.

Toxic dust has claimed the air, and what’s left of humanity hides beneath mountains of rock.

You are D. Kellan, maintenance engineer of Research Center 08, sent deeper and deeper to keep the last bunkers alive… and uncover what happened to Bunker 09.

Every descent is a risk.

Every meter you dig reveals collapsing caverns, abandoned structures, and geological anomalies.

And the further you go, the stranger and more hostile the world becomes.

Explore procedurally generated tunnels, swing across vertical shafts with your grappling hook, gather resources, build underground shelters, and keep your base breathing—literally.

The environment itself fights back: sand falls, water spreads, lava eats through the rock.

Afterdepth blends exploration, survival, and narrative in a dense, atmospheric underground where your only light is the one you carry with you.

Breathe carefully.
