Runaway: A Twist of Fate concludes the Runaway trilogy, giving it a worthy ending. There are already plenty of good reviews, so I'll just leave some short remarks.

As for the trilogy, this is by far it's best part. Part 1 had absolutely awful puzzles, while Part 2 although it had better puzzles, lacked pacing and failed in the story (telling) department. A Twist of Fate furthermore increased the puzzle quality and the puzzles became a mostly natural part of the story. Setting, story, dialogue, "acting" and pretty much everything got a more professional touch. Additionaly, stuff like hotspots marker and fast walking got added to the game, making it alot less frustrating.

Overall I enjoyed playing the game. Even though it might not be perfect (e.g. sometimes it's very hard to see the indication to skip scenes), it's a game I would recommend every fan of the genre. Chapter 3 was one of the best parts I've ever played in any adventure/p&c game.
I did not like part 1 & 2 of the trilogy and I'd recommend only getting part 3, as in-game dialogue and cut-scene supply you with the needed background information.

Too bad this was the last part of the series. Judging by the progress they made over the trilogy, the next part might've been a masterpiece.

Awful. Poorly made. Confusing as hell, and not because of difficulty, but because of bugs and overall clunkiness. Don't buy this game. You'll be glad you didn't.

Runaway: A Twist of Fate, is the third and final (as of right now) entry into the Runaway game trilogy. The story, while leaping ahead a bit in time from the cliffhanger ending of Runaway: Dream of the Turtle, can be considered a direct sequel since it wraps up the events from that game.

If you have played either of the other two games, which is recommended if you want to know the full story, then you will be familiar with the control scheme. This is a point and click adventure, with the left and right mouse buttons used to explore and pick up items. In your inventory you can examine and combine items, and select them to use in the environment. The puzzles are on the same level of difficulty as the first two games. There are no ways to fail, so if you are having trouble just keep exploring and combining items until you find the solution. A nice addition is a button to press that will show you all the hotspots in an area. That definitely helps make some of the pixel hunting go a lot faster.

The graphics have seen a nice upgrade from the previous game. My biggest complaint, the character models, have been improved, and while still not the best, are more than serviceable. The backgrounds are as nice as they have been in the Runaway series.

The voice acting and sound continues to be done well. There are some new original songs in Runaway: A Twist of Fate. Plenty of effort has been put into making the sound top quality.

One of my biggest complaints of the series has been the underwhelming involvement of Gina. Although saving her is a main plot point of the first two games, she is never really present for much of the games. You have no chance to form any sort of attachment to her. That is addressed in this game, where you will be able to control Gina for large parts of the game. She almost feels like a new character, because you did not have much interaction with her in the previous games. Brian is clearly a different character than when he began the first game, but it makes sense after the adventures you have been on together.

Runaway: A Twist of Fate felt like the shortest game in the series. However, what is there is very enjoyable, and I would much rather play a shorter game that is filled with quality content than a longer game that wears out its welcome.

I fully recommend Runaway: A Twist of Fate. I felt like the previous game, Dream of the Turtle, was a drop in quality in the series, but the trilogy ends on a high note. An additional adventure in the saga of Brian and Gina would be welcome.

Grade: B+

Excellent animation/visuals and great voice acting. Endearing characters with funny dialog really colors this game and makes the experience a lot of fun.

I think it's the easiest of the trilogy. the new hot spot system makes sure you don't miss anything in a room. If you really stuck there is a clue system inside the game which gives clues as simple riddles so that you don't feel too bad for seeking help. The game looks very nice. The plot is not what you'd expect after runaway 2 but i enjoyed it nonetheless.

While lots of the fans who enjoyed the astounding visuals and the over-the-top silliness in the first two games will be hugely disappointed on how “normal” Runaway 3 is, the game really does everything to get rid of all the bad things that plagued The Dream of the Turtle and give us an enjoyable and good-paced crime/thriller story in the form of a much more traditional point-and-click adventure game, which also includes the best characterisation of the two main protagonist, as well as huge improvements in gameplay and puzzles.

Long version:
Runaway: A Twist of Fate is the third and (so far) final instalment of the series. One of the most obvious features of the game is that lots, if not all aspects of it were changed quite dramatically: the bad things improved and the good things became worse.
But the good news is that this means the developers turned the god-awful Runaway 2 into a really enjoyable game.

Yes, the background graphics are duller, somewhat more boring. The lush and colourful backdrops are a thing of the past, most of the game takes place in very realistic places.
Same goes for soundtrack. While the first two games had very catchy (albeit dated) main themes, A Twist of Fate uses more traditional songs.

And on the other hand…
You can forget the aliens. You can forget the super-secret government agency with its badly designed Bond-villain rejects. You can forget the ugly faces which would have been thrown out from a bad Nickelodeon cartoon. You can forget the painfully bad voice acting. You can forget the needlessly overcomplicated and outlandishly illogical puzzles. You can forget the plot twist and event turns that come out of nowhere and lead nowhere. And most importantly: you can forget Joshua, who you can see for a few seconds only if you ever use the built-in hint system. That, s right: the most annoying piece of the Runaway franchise isn’t even mentioned in this game’s story.
You can also forget the frustrating pixel-hunting: all hotspots can be highlighted now, so instead of combing through every microdot of every screen, you can focus on solving the puzzles and advancing in the story.
The only thing that barely changed is that large portion of the dialogues are still forced plot-dumps, but the quality of the writing improved so much it may take three or more chapters until you really start noticing it.

And have I mentioned that the new plot offers a way to completely retcon the aliens and all the nonsense that we saw in the last game and act like if it was a simple delusion? It even lets us think that the more cartoonish elements in the first game (like conversing with the dead) were only the result of a wild imagination trying to spice up a simple mafia story.
Because the new story yet again bases itself in reality. In a Hollywood-ish reality, but still reality: you are on the run from a bunch of assassins who plot to kill you all the while they are trying to make lots of money. No bowling ball teleporters, no telepathic aliens, just a very sound thriller story.
With a good load of campy and cheesy humour that is put only where it should be, not forcing itself into situations that are intense or dramatic. No over-the top Monkey Island imitations, just a little spoof here and there.

Still, the game is far from perfect of course, hence the “score”. For one thing, it is considerably shorter than the first or second one. The plot is still shoddy sometimes, the puzzles are a little bit forced (for example you just happen to find a rare statue ten meters away when you are asked to find one) and the voice acting still falls flat for the new main actor, but overall the game is a major improvement and a really exciting and worthy conclusion of the Runaway trilogy

Too bad you have to suffer through the second instalment to fully understand the story.

Teil!

Good Point and Click, you should play the previous games before this one or you'll miss most of the story and references.

This is the third game in the Runaway series, instead of playing as Brian you start off playing as Gina. Personally this one was my favorite game of the series but my least favorite Brian of the series but it's understandable seeing as what he went through I guess. It has a couple of new features over the other two like hotspots and hints. Hotspots point out everything on the screen that can be investigated or used which can be useful if you are blind like me. Hints are just as they sound... Hints.. they can be helpful but sometimes I felt they were to helpful and other times not enough, everytime you click for a hint you have to listen to some extra dialogue so it's there is a bit of "punishment" to taking hints but some of the dialogue can be pretty amusing.

All in all I found this more enjoyable than the other two but before playing this I recommend playing the other two or at least the second as it will make many points of the game make more sense.

This is the game where Pendulo really started to find their feet in making a good adventure game. Most of the parts of the game that are weak are actually from trying to support things from Runaway 1 and 2. Gina and Brian co-star in this game that begins with Brian's funeral with flashbacks discovering just how our hero ended up where he did.
With a doubleclick speed-walk system and a hint system that's actually fun to use (and yes, I did use it a couple of times), Pendulo have learned from their past flaws and worked up to a new high. The game is beautiful, the characters are entertaining and the puzzles are almsot exclusively clever.
It's hard to recommend this game to people who have not played Runaway 1 and 2 (it ties in fairly closely), but at the same time, it's a great adventure game. The Next BIG Thing is funnier... Yesterday has a couple of neater tweaks, but this is the best overall.

The final part of the three part series of Runaway. As always it's quite funny and easy to get sucked into it, however the problem I had with it was the catch up from the last game when you learn everything was done a little too fast and changed the voice for Brian Basco and a few others (I don't know for what reason) and it's REALLY noticable, as if the guy wasn't even trying to imitate the previous voice actor's way of speaking or tone of voice at all.

Quite dissappointing on the voice side of things, but if you can get over that, it's still quite a fun ride, especially with the implimentation of ways to see hotspots for when you miss some (a complaint I had from the first two games) and even a hint giver who makes jokes about Pendulo Studios employees. However the ending I loved and I can't wait to get stuck into their other adventures. Yesterday and The Next Big Thing.

Last but not least of the runaway trilogy. The beginning of the story is a bit strange but you will understand how you have ended here later on the game. This time, Gina will be playable about half of the time and one of her memory sequence will enjoy most of the men playing this game...

A fun and lovely looking adventure to be sure, packed full of Pendulo's signature bizarre characters. That said, this final game of the Runaway trilogy has considerably scaled back that casual, oneiric insanity that made The Dream of the Turtle so wonderful -- and as a great lover of pleasantly mad things, I find that ♥♥♥♥ing tragic. Also, A Twist of Fate is about half as long as that game. No, I still recommend this . . . I just can't comprehend what made Pendulo choose "good" over "awesome" this time around.

Although it was presented as a longer game, I found it very short, even sharter than the previous one (27h as opposed to 36 h). The game is enjoyable nevertheless, but i felt a little bit cheated when it ended so soon. One other minus, since it is the last of the series, the writers should have included all other important characters that have been previously featured, like Sushi, which they didn't. So, all things considered, C+.
