What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We’re not making just any battle royale game; we’re building fresh features like the Show Director who serves as a master of ceremonies, Spectator Interactions that let viewers directly interact with streams, and we’re tightening up the whole experience with an emphasis on tracking that ensures players are always within arm’s reach of a tense confrontation.

From the first playtests, we knew that player feedback would be key to optimizing these systems. Because Darwin Project leans so heavily into social interaction, the best way for us to realize our vision for the game is to have an active community exploring its features and taking part in a variety of encounters―either as contestants, Show Directors, or spectators. We’re really proud of what we’ve built so far and look forward to continue improving Darwin Project with the help of our Steam Early Access players.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We will launch Darwin Project out of Early Access when all its systems meet our quality targets for fun factor, balancing, and polish. We’ll take the time we need, but we estimate to launch around summer 2018.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full version, our main objectives are perfecting Darwin Project’s key features, like the Show Director and Spectator Interactions, and increasing the scope of the game with new features, game modes, tools, Show Director powers, and more.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version contains Solo mode, Private Matches, Spectator Interactions on both Twitch and Mixer, dedicated servers, anti-cheat measures, and more. Darwin Project’s core gameplay is proven and solid, and it’ll only keep getting better.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We do not plan to increase the price when Darwin Project leaves Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have already received great feedback from the thousands of players who participated in Alpha and Beta tests, as well as the friends and family members who join us in smaller-scale technical playtests regularly. We’ll keep monitoring feedback closely across all our channels and working hand in hand with the Darwin Project community to create a heart-pounding battle royale game that isn’t afraid to inject new ideas into the genre.”

Darwin Project Is Now Free to Play!

Here's an important update from our Creative Director Simon Darveau:

“We’ve said from the start that we’re committed to creating a fresh and exciting experience for Darwin Project players and viewers. With features like the Show Director who serves as a master of ceremonies, Spectator Interactions that let viewers directly interact with streams, and an emphasis on tracking that ensures players are always within arm’s reach of a tense confrontation, we still believe Darwin Project offers a quality experience unlike any other battle royale game out there.

“We’ve been fortunate to have a core community of players join us at a very early stage, with many still supporting us during Early Access, and the last thing we want to do is let those passionate players down. Lately, members of our community have reported longer queue times and difficulty finding matches in lesser populated servers. To bring in new players and maintain a level of activity that ensures players are able to get the most of out Darwin Project, we’ve decided to make it more accessible by removing the price tag.

“We’re aware that it’s a big change, and we want to reiterate that we’re remaining true to Darwin Project’s vision as we move forward.”

How can I play for free?
Darwin Project is currently available as a free download on Steam.

I bought the game already. Since it’s free now, will I be compensated?
If you own Darwin Project, you’ll receive the Founder’s Pack containing 2 Legendary sets, 3 Legendary Axes, 3 Legendary Bows, a full jumpsuit collection, and 5 Fan Gifts. It will be added to your inventory on Tuesday, April 24.

Will Darwin Project be pay-to-win?
No. We will never sell items that give a competitive advantage.

See you and ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS in the arena!

EDIT: We are currently investigating an issue with Steam refunds. Thank you for your patience!

Glider Tool Unlocked and Usable Now!

Inmates,

Thanks to your help, Mister Friend has successfully gathered 500,000 flags for his mysterious tool! Here's his heartfelt response to finally being able to build the Glider:

I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, in the forms of flags, that greeted my humble request for hundreds of thousands of flags. Sure, collecting flags wasn’t as glamorous as flying a fighter jet with the window open or eating a Philly cheesesteak, but it got results. Years from now we’ll laugh together, remembering these days, our Flag days, and how we proved everyone wrong, how we stood up for what was right and said Yes! I got all those flags. I worked long nights in the lab (my prison cell) only taking short breaks to use the bathroom (also my cell). Testing the Glider in a small room was extremely painful.
Courage. Vigilance. Flags.
Your Neighbour,
Mister Friend

To use the Glider in-game, go to the Crafting Wheel customization inside a lobby or in the main menu and add the Glider to your Tools. Collect 1 Wood and 1 Leather to craft it in the arena, then use it to make a quick escape or drop in on unsuspecting enemies.

With the Glider, you can cover long distances faster than ever. Deploy it from high ground and fly over a fire or a lava area to maximize flight time!

Manage to create a really cool moment with the Glider? Tag us on Twitter @ScavengerStudio with your clips!

About This Game

Darwin Project takes place in a dystopian post-apocalyptic landscape in the Northern Canadian Rockies. As preparation for an impending Ice Age, a new project, half science experiment half live-entertainment, is launched. It's called "Darwin Project" and it challenges 10 participants to survive the cold and fight to the death in a treacherous arena.

KEY FEATURES:
- MANHUNT & SURVIVAL:
Track the position of enemies, by using environmental clues they left behind and be creative with your use of crafted traps to take the upperhand. The biting cold of the Northern Canadian Rockies will also slowly freeze you should you be careless.

- SHOW DIRECTOR:
The Show Director is the living bridge between the players and spectators. He/She is the host and master who controls the arena with nuclear bombs, zone closures, gravity storms, and the power of their voice. This could be a real tool of self discovery; the start of your new career as a charming but deadly game show host.

- LIVE SPECTATOR INTERACTIONS:

Stream viewers can also bet live on the competitors they think will reign supreme, in addition to helping the Show Director choose targets for their arena-shaping powers. Whether they’re voting on which player deserves a death-defying heal or which zone to nuke, it’s time for spectators to become active participants in the manhunt!
