What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are looking for assistance in two primary areas: gameplay balance and content direction.

We want a player base that will help us balance the gameplay and provide feedback on our current direction.

There are so many elements in Rogue Islands that need to work together; enemies, loot drop rates, loot spawn rates, treasure spawning, enemies hit points, enemy speeds, enemy damage, spell damage, player speed, progression and on and on.

It has become very difficult for us to determine what fits, what is working and what needs balancing. We think we have a game that is decently balanced, and very fun. But we won't know until we get the game into the hands of a decent number of players.

We play the game all day every day which makes it very hard for us to see the experience with fresh eyes. We have an extremely rapid pace of development which makes it easy for us to incorporate player feedback and tune the gameplay.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're planning no longer than 3 months but essentially however long it takes for us to be reasonable assured that the game will be well received by the broader gaming community.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Throughout the Early Access phase we will be adding new content and balancing.

We will be concentrating on three primary pillars for the duration of the Early Access:
  • gameplay balance (loot, attacks, spells, enemies, movement etc)
  • additional enemies and natural hazards
  • bosses (2 of the 4 finished)

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build is very playable, with a steady framerate and all main features completed.

You can view our entire roadmap on our website:
http://rogueislands.com/?page_id=2

All of the environments are finished, the spell attacks are in place (with upgrades). There are enough enemies to keep things interesting and 2 of the 4 planned boss fights are in the game.

The roadmap includes the details of exactly what state all of the features are in, as well as some indication of where we would like to take Rogue Islands post-launch in the form of "Stretch Goals".”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The build is in great shape at this point and all future updates will be free.

We want players who are willing to supply us with helpful feedback; people who want this type of game, know how they want it to play, and enjoy the development process and seeing their feedback turned into tangible improvements.

We may raise the price slightly after Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will be doing weekly (if not daily) updates on our development blog and store page. We have a team member dedicated to engaging with the Steam community, collecting feedback, finding the patterns in the feedback and communicating it to the developers.

We will highlight the community members who provided very constructive and useful feedback by calling them out in our release notes as well as in the final game's credits.

We will push updates to Steam rapidly; either daily or weekly. To allow for tight iteration with the community.”

Final Release Pricing - Feature Complete

Guys,

As you will have noticed we have transitioned to final release pricing. Let me explain that in full.

I want to reassure you that those of you who were with us in early access that you will continue to have full updates, patches etc that we create for you guys. So yes, you got the full game at a reduced price and we will not penalise you for that going forward. We are grateful for all your help, support and encouragement. You will receive the full game and all future updates on us.

Those of you purchasing now are essentially buying the feature complete build - with a ton of updates etc. You too will continue to get all updates, the full game and fixes going forward.

We are still in early access as we want to make sure that the game is absolutely perfect before we hit the button on official full release. So whilst we are feature complete, there may yet be some fixes and tweaks based on the feedback from you guys.

So right now, you either own (or are about to buy the full game), with the possibility of hotfixes before full release.

We WILL be dropping a ton of additional content in to the game after official release with very regular content for you guys. The game will continue to evolve and grow for many years yet and we are going to be really prolific in our future releases and content. I will be posting on the roadmap in a couple of days. You guys will love it!

So again to reassure, whether you buy now or bought in early access you are going to be receiving the full game and future updates and fixes from us. We have transitioned to final retail price as we are feature complete for the retail version. We are just ensuring the build is stable before we hit the magic button to end early access!

Thank you all so much for your support. It means a lot to Big Fat Alien and all the gang at Keystone.

About This Game

Set sail for Rogue Islands!

Rogue Islands is a fast-paced action shooter set in a procedural fantasy world. You control a nimble druid that can levitate and cast powerful magic spells. The action is fast and smooth, and the enemies are numerous and relentless.

Each island is a unique and complex 3d sculpture brimming with monsters, temples, forests, mountains, caves and bosses. Massive cliffs rise from the depths. Insane, twisted passages wind their way through valleys and under mountains. No two islands are ever the same as the game challenge evolves around your play style, offering a truly unique experience tailored to you!

The islands are infested with a demonic horde. Spinefish lurk in the watery depths, skeletons march across the hillsides, vile shaman screech and fly overhead, vicious Hell-bats spit fireballs that erupt and ignite the canopy. Nowhere is safe, especially after dark when Ghastly apparitions descend from the stars and inexorably hunt you down.

Gather resources as you enhance your spell book with a range of powerful spells that gives you the edge as you strive to survive. Use Spark Shot to mine blocks from the earth, or get up close and unleash a massive electric Zap; instantly reducing small foes to a smoking heap. If things get out of control, summon a Swarm of wasps to take the heat or protect yourself with a sentient Bolt that defends you against sneak attacks.

Can you find your way through the archipelago of islands for the final showdown with the Lords Of Torment?

Developed by Kiaran Ritchie of Bioware, in association with Jane Whittaker (5 time programmer of the year award winner, author of Alien Vs Predator for the Atari Jaguar et al) and the incredibly talented Keystone team, Rogue Islands takes procedural landscape games to dizzying new heights.

"Very detailed randomly generated landscapes, combined with fantastic combat and resource gathering. The gameplay is really well thought out and won't leave you bored. Highly Recommended!" - Steam Curator Coldwild Games
