About This Game

From Valve (the creators of Counter-Strike, Half-Life and more) comes Left 4 Dead, a co-op action horror game for the PC and Xbox 360 that casts up to four players in an epic struggle for survival against swarming zombie hordes and terrifying mutant monsters.
Set in the immediate aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, L4D's survival co-op mode lets you blast a path through the infected in four unique “movies,” guiding your survivors across the rooftops of an abandoned metropolis, through rural ghost towns and pitch-black forests in your quest to escape a devastated Ground Zero crawling with infected enemies. Each "movie" is comprised of five large maps, and can be played by one to four human players, with an emphasis on team-based strategy and objectives.
New technology dubbed "the AI Director" is used to generate a unique gameplay experience every time you play. The Director tailors the frequency and ferocity of the zombie attacks to your performance, putting you in the middle of a fast-paced, but not overwhelming, Hollywood horror movie.
  • Addictive single player, co-op, and multiplayer action gameplay from the makers of Counter-Strike and Half-Life
  • Versus Mode lets you compete four-on-four with friends, playing as a human trying to get rescued, or as a zombie boss monster that will stop at nothing to destroy them.
  • See how long you and your friends can hold out against the infected horde in the new Survival Mode
  • An advanced AI director dynamically creates intense and unique experiences every time the game is played
  • 20 maps, 10 weapons and unlimited possibilities in four sprawling "movies"
  • Matchmaking, stats, rankings, and awards system drive collaborative play
  • Designer's Commentary allows gamers to go "behind the scenes" of the game
  • Powered by Source and Steam

THE SACRIFICE

"The Sacrifice” is the new add-on for Left 4 Dead.

"The Sacrifice" is the prequel to "The Passing," and takes place from the L4D Survivors' perspective as they make their way South. In addition to advancing the story, "The Sacrifice" introduces a new style finale featuring "Sacrificial Gameplay" where players get to decide who will give their life so the others may live.

In The Sacrifice for Left 4 Dead owners receive "The Sacrifice" campaign playable in Campaign, Versus, and Survival modes.

L4D2 was actually a downgrade from L4D1, yes you had more campaigns, and survivors, but L4D1 just had little details, and things that L4D1 just doesn't have, I love both but even after a few minutes of gameplay I realized that this game is better.

PROS:
- Has achievements
- Great buy for people wanting to own the entire series
- People still play it

CONS:
- Practically 100% obsolete if you own Left 4 Dead 2
- Has fewer features than Left 4 Dead 2:
-No workshop (but has addon support)
-Only weapons are Uzi, Pump Shotgun, Hunting Rifle, M16, M1014 Auto Shotgun, and Dual Pistols. No Melee weapons
- Has the same price as Left 4 Dead 2

Just get Left 4 Dead 2. Literally everything that makes L4D great is in L4D2 somewhere.

In short; an amazingly crafted game that will bring hours of fun whether you're playing by yourself or with friends on multiplayer (which is where L4D truly shines)... and that's just by killing a shedload of zombies for 90% of the time.

The only thing I wish that Valve implemented into this game are more cutscenes.

I absolutley love the L4D series!!! I started with L4D2, but when I noticed that L4D was on sale, I figured that I'd go for it!! Yes, the exact same campaigns are also in the second game, but I really enjoy seeing what the special infected originally looked like, the gameplay, weapons, and how each campaign looked (some minor differences, of course)!

It all started here, the game that played an important role during my high school years.

Now this game is just a shell of its former glory and competitiveness, as many have moved on in life just as I did. This game is still in deep slumber, awaiting the day of its long-deserved revival and comeback.

I don't care who you are, how old you are, where you come from or what your gaming experience is. You need to play this game.

In my opinion, this game completely reinvented (maybe even pioneered) cooperative multiplayer. You can expect hundreds of hours of fun with friends.

This game isn't only about how good your aim is, how fast you are, or how well you know the level. It's mostly about how well you know your friends, tough decision making skills, and whether you can stick together and work together as a group.

There's a random generator concept included in level design, meaning enemies don't spawn in the same places when you play a level. This keeps the game interesting as you're never sure what the expect. Level design is excellent, the characters are great and lovable. The story is simple but enough to get you hooked.

If I have to find something negative about the game, I would say that it lacks a good soundtrack.

As of this review, this game is 8 years old, and is still as amazing as it was when it released. I played this game for years on my Xbox 360 before I finally got it on Steam when I got my first computer a year ago. It's a shame I missed out on how much better this game is on PC, graphics and game play wise. Great game for friends.
Sidenote: All the maps from L4D are avaliable on the Steam port of L4D2, which I did not read anywhere before I bought this game, so I would not bother purchasing this game due to its improved counterpart, Left 4 Dead 2.

A classic that redefined co-op gaming for me. Surviving the zombie horde with friends always feels like an accomplishment, but I never knew I would play a game where I wanted to be on the other side. Now, it's hard to remember a world without Boomers, Hunters, Smokers, and Tanks.
