-I don't see the light. I don't hear a thing. I don't feel the world. I can feel the light. I can sense the sound. I can read the matter.
-What? How?

This game is one of those hidden indie diamonds in the rough, how so?

the game is overall straightfowards, you have a ship versus a near infinite amount of enemy ships in fast paced laser-gun combat at the beat of whatever background music is playing.

while the above sentence could easily apply on many other twin-stick shooters out there, it stands out on this game in particular due to it's core mechanic:

Gameplay powered by YOUR Music.

there are many twin-stick shooters out there, but all restrict the player on whatever powerups you may pick what levels you play and at most provide you with a few catchy tunes along the way,
this game however manages to go the extra mile and provide support for your music and even better base it's entire core mechanic around it, how so?

the strength, intensity, speed and visuals of nearly all elements on the screen while you play are directly affected by the intensity of your music.
if your music library consists of heavy beats, then the game will crank enemy spawns and spazz-inducing visual effects like there's no tomorrow, the downside to this however is that having a mellow music library does the opposite, reduces enemy spawns, light intensity and overall speed of the game.
(which by itself, isn't so bad if you're looking for a break in the action or cannot handle strobing lights)

The fact that this game uses your very own music library is also it's best point, as if you're one of those guys that cannot help but have more than 20 GB of music stored on their hard drive, then you've basically given yourself hours and hours of free DLC, in the end, it's up to the player to decide how active or dull their experience with this game is.

moving on to the ships,

as of the last update (shadow operations DLC) the player can now change between different ships, now to be honest, this is merely just an extra for those who wish to give the default ship a break, these newer ships provide either greater mobility or firepower and sometimes even auto-fire or auto-pickup for items. all in all the extra ships are made for people who are either having a tough time on the regular game or want a self-imposed challenge by selecting (or creating) a weak. slow. ship. You're not missing out on much should you play with the regular ship.

which brings me to the next point. Ship Crafting.

If you're one of the players who just doesn't want to customize the music, but the ship as well, you now can with the previously mentioned DLC. you are given a set of "points" that you can use to spend on designing your ship.
you can go for heavy and strong or light and nimble. you're pretty much given a good set of options on how to build a ship, the kicker is, PNG support, what makes your ships unique is that you can in a way draw your own ship, customize it, THEN play with it, all in all, a pretty cool feature if you have the patience for it.

FINAL VERDICT: If you're into shoot-em-ups, and love music-based gameplay, this game is for you.

AS A BONUS: This is one of those games that actively benefits from soundtrack bought from other steam games such as TF2 or Half Life. if you by any chance have any game albums downloaded, give them a go with this game you might be surprised how some tracks play out.

Awesome game! Finally got a game my dad can play and enjoy! That aside, the game is great. A well made shoot em up with a good enemy generation system, definetly worth the money.
